Anyone had to spend days alone without anyone to talk to?

Hi all, apart from here and a brief visit to church last night (to make it feel Christmassy and to just be with people) I've had day after day for weeks now with nobody at all to talk to. This time of year especially it's really depressing. Old friends that live far away are gradually losing contact with me - I ring them but they don't ring me. I understand they're busy with their live elsewhere but still it's hard when you're lonely. I'm going to a Christmas Eve service at the local church tomorrow night to at least be with people for a little while... but otherwise all day I'm alone, just me and the dog. Sometimes I strike up a conversation on BB but then the other person disappears and that's the end of that...
How are people meant to cope with prolonged periods of social isolation? I read, I watch DVDs, normally I'd go for long walks with the dog but thick smoke from bushfires and intense hot weather have stopped that. I go to a café alone sometimes. Any ideas/help?

Hi Katy
Poor Stormy I'm so sorry about her legs! What is the problem? Can the vet help?
I think the library opens today but I'm too hot and tired to go there today. It'll be nice to have it back though!
Just got two elbow length tips and a pair of pants for dog walking at the op. Shop. It's hard to find clothes for this weather that's too hot for winter tops but not warm enough for sleeveless summer gear! The pants were ten dollars but they're really nice. I've put on weight during lockdown, my GP told me everyone is fat from watching TV and comfort eating for months!
I like your chat with Sleepy about nail colours! I have to keep my nails really short to play music which is a bummer! So I just wear clear polish 😐
There is a nice utube channel called The Cottage Fairy I wonder if you would enjoy it. She lives in a little cottage in the USA. It's very pretty and soothing as she goes about her day.
I hope you are OK today, I know it's a difficult day for you today. Hugs! 💖🏵️🎠🦠

Hi paws
We'll a couple of days ago it was freezing and raining and today it's sooo hot! Sam and I both tired today and rather bored. I haven't written to the shadow MP yet but I will and thank you for your advice and help. G said he detests the local MP here and I agree!
Sam is like me and is tired in the sudden heat. I have Vision Australia phoning me tomorrow to see if they can give any assistance with my sight issues but I don't know if they can help with my problem.
I'm going to take Sam for a paddle in the river shortly, he loves it. I was going to go to the next big town today for a day out but it was too hot and I was a bit off colour so we've had a quiet day.
I watched an amazing movie on SBS movies the other night, The Painter and the Thief - a documentary from I think Sweden or Denmark about a painter who decided to paint a portrait of a man who is convicted of stealing her paintings and they became friends and he managed to rehabilitate himself. It was stunning.
Hugs to you and pats to Woofa. I love that you saw the koala!

Katy, I'm used to looking at the swimming costumes the girls wear at the beach but here as it's inland they all wear their gym gear out walking. I think they look so comfy but you want to have a good bottom to wear the pants with the ruched stretch bottoms! All the young guys seem to enjoy watching them it's quite funny watching them almost walk into a tree they're so busy watching the girls!
You look after yourself and Stormy 🐒🐮🐽🐀

Without going into much detail Grandy, long ago a man did something terrible to me. We all have our histories here as you know!
Anyway when I was very anxious one day G did something so kind that I wept for days. Which is why it's a rather special friendship for me. He is a very kind and gentle person. That other man was anything but.

Hello Dear Hanna,
I am so sorry to hear that you went through something terrible a man done to you...big hugs lovely lady...
G sounds like a very caring person to do something special for you, when you were having a very anxious day....I think because of his anxiety he understands you and wanted to do something nice for you...People like G are a real treasure as friends...I feel very happy for you that a friendship has been made....
I am too afraid of men to even have an acquaintance with them....Honestly I just don’t trust any man in r/l....I know there are good and kind men out their...but I need to talk to them first...and that’s something that I can’t do....
I go back to work tomorrow...the op shop is only going to open 3 days a week...because on the other 2 days the boss and his wife are working in the shop...and no one wants to work with them....Sad that a manager/boss hasn’t learnt any people skills....and is so angry most times...
I hope you have a good nights sleep tonight Hanna and everyone....
My love, care and both fur and human hugs..
Grandy..

Hi Grandy
I hope the day at the shop goes OK. I think that's rather funny about it having to close because nobody wants to work with the boss and his wife, they must be dreadful but what a shame for the shop!
In the op shop here yesterday they've taken the chair out of the change room which makes it very difficult if you need to take your shoes off and on standing up.
I'm not scared of men I enjoy their company usually more than women as women can be so nasty. It's just certain situations can make me unsettled. I can understand your feelings though.
Enjoy today at the shop!

Hello Hanna, wave to everyone,
How did the call from Vision Australia go?
Another chilly day here... more rain forecast for the rest of the week as well... I would really like a few dry days in a row to help dry out the ground so I can mow without bogging.
I'm going to watch The Big Deal tonight on the ABC... its about political donations & looks like it might be interesting.
Hugs

Hi paws and everyone
I missed the big deal last night as I was watching a movie on SBS. How was it?
Vision Australia was good she will get an OT to assess the house after I get some documents to them and this will help with Housing.
A beautiful day here and we've spent plenty of time outdoors!
The library is open again but shorter hours so I could pick up some books yesterday.
Has a long chat with a friend in another place up the coast, she and her husband retired there 5 years ago and she still only has one friend, we were commiserating with each other! People really aren't very friendly any more.
Big hugs I'm off to walk Sam by the river!

Hello Hanna, wave to everyone,
Oh that is so good to hear you might finally be getting some help... how hard will it be for you to get together the necessary documents?... I will be keeping everything crossed that you will then hear back sooner rather than later...
The Big Deal was interesting (see my reply to Katy on my thread)
How is Sam coming along?.. Did he feel well enough for a splash in the river?
Hugs

Hi Hanna, Paws, Grandy and All,
I've not dropped by for a while. Hanna, I noticed you mentioned you were taking Sam for a walk down near the River, so I hope that means that Sam is doing a lot better.
Thanks for the reminder about the library, I might call into one near us and borrow some books. I don't have any favourite authors so just randomly choose books off the shelf! It is a bit hit and miss really.
We are having a burst of sunshine here for a few days. Have spent some time weeding and listening to the birds.
Hope you are all doing okay or at least reasonably well! Cheers from Dools
