Hello to our wonderful forums community! We have decided to run an ongoing Big Blue Table thread ‘Forums Edition’ until the end of October! What is a Big Blue Table? Big Blue Table is Beyond Blue's signature event held during October, Mental Health Month. Big Blue Table encourages people host a meal with their friends, family or colleagues while fighting the stigma that surrounds mental health. So why are we running one here? The reason we are doing this is so people have an opportunity to connect with others and have the experience of sharing their thoughts and feelings over a meal, no matter where they are in Australia. We know Mental Health Month can be a vulnerable time for many and believe this thread could be a safe space for people to be heard and learn from others’ experiences. Our community champions will be here to support you along the way, and our moderation team will be around to answer any questions you may have, as well as to ensure the thread remains respectful and safe for everyone. We encourage you to choose from the following questions to start a conversation: What do you do to look after your mental health? Are you comfortable sharing your feelings and emotions? If not, why? What are you passionate about, and why? Who would be your dream Big Blue Table guest, and why? After you have shared your answers, we would love to hear about what you are eating or bringing to the table. You can even tell us a little bit about your setup and what you can see around you to really immerse us into your world. This is your opportunity to be as creative as you’d like! But remember, there is no pressure or ‘right’ response, whatever you bring to the table will be more than enough. We hope this thread allows you to feel connected, supported, and a part of the Big Blue Table initiative. Now… get cooking!

Hi everyone, This section of the forum is a little different to the others, as you may have noticed in looking around the threads. Elsewhere on the forums, we discuss some pretty heavy topics: mental health issues, thoughts of suicide, trauma, abuse, relationship breakdowns. Here is the place to come to get away from that and have a bit of fun. Distraction can be an important tool to draw on if you're finding yourself overwhelmed by distressing thoughts and feelings. As this is a section for respite from difficult topics, we will remove posts made in this section that attempt to discuss personal issues. Please use a support thread in the appropriate section for these discussions. Happy posting!

Hello! one of my favourite word games is where you are given five letters and you need to make a sentence from it, making one word that starts with each letter, in that order. The sentence can be as correct or quirky as you wish, don't worry about grammar! It can be serious, silly or ludicrous. You then leave five letters for another person. These five letters can be a five letter word or just five random letters, anything goes. It often helps not to think about it too much or it starts to get hard! For example: S T A R T somehow the amazon re-forrested tremendously or, G H J K L giant hairy jovial kangaroos laugh or, M F H B E microscopic follicles harmlessly brew elixirs and here is one for you to try.... P A P E R (and then leave a new set of five letters for the next person) Enjoy! Christina

Hi all I know a while back there was a thread with some jokes on it - just to try and lighten the load for folk and to provide a few jolly japes and spiffy spifferoons (those words etched in my memory bank from the late and great Kenny Everitt). However, I was far to lazy to try and find the other thread, so thought I'd start up a new one WJW. Here we go people, something to start you off with: "When I was a small boy, I had a dog named Tax. I'd open the door and "Income Tax"" "That very same year, I had a bird called Enza. I'd open the window and "Influenza" Now, they can't be done on any other day - for it is after all, Worst Joke Wednesday. See if you can beat either of those?

At this hour, I find myself particularly vulnerable because I am heavily sleep deprived, and my brain can't really process. I have been awake for 21 hours and 12 minutes straight after a string of nights of only a few hours' sleep. I don't feel well, nor do I feel sleepy. So, I am listening to the soundtrack of my life entitled "Walkabouts" and right now, the perfect song to describe what I am feeling (at least the chorus of it) is Madness by Muse. Has anyone ever felt like they could communicate more if they did it through the songs that already exist? I challenge us to have a conversation consisting of song quotes. So, dedicated to my depression; here I go... Ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-mad mad mad...Ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-mad mad mad....Ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-mad mad mad...Ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-mad mad mad...I, I can't get these memories ooout of my mind, and some kind of maaaadness has started to evolve. Ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-mad mad mad...Ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-mad mad mad... And I, I tried so hard to let you go-ooo, but some kind of maaaadness is swallowing me whole, yeah....Ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-mad mad mad...Ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-mad mad mad...I have finally seen the light. And I have finally realized, what you mean.... Ooh oh oh [MODERATOR'S NOTE: Hi everyone, just a reminder that song lyrics are copyrighted material, and we (as in BB) can get into trouble for reproducing them without permission. If you could just keep to sharing song titles, or one or two lines from the song at most, rather than whole lyrics that would be great - that way we can keep this thread open. ]

I couldn't think of a more creative name for this thread so I kept it simple. I love coming across quotes that make me feel good or make me think about a situation in a different light. I have a "little book of confidence" that I used to carry in my handbag for when i needed it and I have a few other little books with quotes that I reflect on now and then I thought it would be good to share some and encourage others to do the same. For starters I have: If you want to know someone's mind, listen to their words. If you want to know their heart, watch their actions. People are not addicted to alcohol or drugs, they are addicted to escaping reality. cmf x

I lived in Thailand beforeAnd I really didnt like the foodMost people rave about Thai food and I understand because it does smell goodCrazy huh.In Thailand most foods centre around chicken and pork and seafood and beef not so much. But an interesting thing I noted about Thai men was their politeness and eagerness to helpBut also thai people are shy to talk because if they cant speak English they feel embarrassed Im the one who should feel embarrassed I would get my interpreter to say to them.Thailand is what they call a developing country but in my time there I saw a country so far advanced in areas than Australia is I became unwell and was seeing a pyschiatrist straight away no wait time. The community spirit there is superior to here and it rare to hear a car beep a horn because everyone on road is courtesy minded.I have heard of Australians shiver at the mention of going to a dentist in South eastern countries Their hygiene professionalism the whole dentist experience is on par if not better than here in Aus and fraction of price. The money saved on dental work is enough to have a holiday while you are thereI have so much respect for thai people. Anyway just some light conversationIf anybody wants to know anything about medical in Thai you can talk on here from my experience.
