Hi everyone, This section of the Beyond Blue Forums is a little different to the others, as you may have noticed in looking at the discussions. Elsewhere on the Forums, we discuss some pretty heavy topics: mental health issues, thoughts of suicide, trauma, abuse, relationship breakdowns. Here is the place to come to get away from that and have a bit of fun. Distraction can be an important tool to draw on if you're finding yourself overwhelmed by distressing thoughts and feelings. As this is a section for respite from heavier topics, we will relocate any discussions about heavier topics to a more suitable section of the Forums. Happy posting! Beyond Blue

Hi everyone, Life can be hard sometimes, so I thought I might try something different here. And I figured it might be nice to share a little light. Has something (big or small, it does not matter!) that brought you a moment of joy this week? It could be as simple as a smile from a stranger? Good cup of coffee? a walk? Or something funny your pet did. I’ll start: After a day when I thought I did not accomplish much, my higher up sent me a text message in the evening, thanking for the help I had given during the day. And this put a smile on my face. Looking forward to hearing the little things that made your day a bit brighter

Hey people,When things feel a bit much, I find myself going back to the same old shows or movies I’ve seen a thousand times. There’s something so grounding about knowing exactly what’s going to happen next. For me, it’s The Vicar of Dibley or any old nature documentary. They feel like a warm hug for my brain. What about you? What’s that one show or movie you put on when you just need to switch off and feel safe? No judgments here, if it’s a kids' cartoon or a cheesy 90s rom-com, want to hear it!

Hey everyone,Thought I’d start a lighter thread here since this space is all about chilling and connecting. Some days are obviously harder than others, but I’ve noticed that even on rough days, there’s often one small thing that makes it a little more bearable, even if it’s tiny or feels a bit silly. For me today, it was:sitting with a warm drink and doing absolutely nothing for five minutesand oddly enough, opening a window and just listening to outside noise for a bit Nothing life-changing, but it helped me pause. I was curious:What’s one small thing that helped you today (or recently)?Could be a song, a snack, a moment, a meme, a walk, a pet doing something weird - anything counts. No pressure to be positive or deep here. Just sharing.Looking forward to hearing your little wins, comforts, or random moments

Hi All,I'm an older woman with a long history of depression (since my teens but on meds since age 40) and some seriously unhelpful responses to feeling down and unmotivated. The two key maladapative things I do are: 1. not getting up in the morning and sometimes not all day 2. not getting active/socialising even though I know that will make me feel better. I think if had day-to-day encouragement to get up and get moving I'd do a lot better than I am most of the time these days. I've recently had a relationship break-up which has forced me to rely more on myself instead of expecting my partner to do the heavy lifting with me. I'd love to support others with mental health concerns because I'm actually pretty good at that kind of thing and supporting others makes me feel better. Also because if I help others, hopefully others will help me . . . . Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi, guys, this is the first time i post here. My son is in Y11. He has depression and anxiety in the last one year or so. We have just being through the very difficult time in the last two weeks. Upon returning to school, he was very down and refused to continue school and just wanted to go to tafe or just drop out. Ater so much difficult talks with him, we finally found that his presure are from some elective subjects he reluctantly choose last year as he doesnt have better choice. He did well academicly last year despite his depression, especially for those subjects he's interested in. But he does feel hard to focus on the theory based, or hard subjects as his constant poor sleeping quality greatly impacts his concentration. We approached the school and discussed the options of EVET in Hospitality. The school strongly disagree with this pathway as they worried my son may fail this Hospitality course. After we promised that we will keep the school's subjects as safety net, they finally agree to proceed my son's EOI to Tafe. But this afternoon, they said they received decline letter from two local Tafes (the two choices we list in the form). My son is so disappointed. As he is so looking forward to do Hospitality intead of the subject he has to do at school. And I'm worried he might not be willing to go to school again. My questions is if the school has the right to release my son's mental health to tafe? if the tafe can exclude my son ffrom EVET because of his mental health? if the school has the right to stop our application? Can i really trust the school. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I couldn't think of a more creative name for this thread so I kept it simple. I love coming across quotes that make me feel good or make me think about a situation in a different light. I have a "little book of confidence" that I used to carry in my handbag for when i needed it and I have a few other little books with quotes that I reflect on now and then I thought it would be good to share some and encourage others to do the same. For starters I have: If you want to know someone's mind, listen to their words. If you want to know their heart, watch their actions. People are not addicted to alcohol or drugs, they are addicted to escaping reality. cmf x

Hi I’m 30 years old just over a year out of a long term relationship and I feel lost in life at the moment, feels like there is an empty void in me I just can’t fill and I also feel like I’m falling behind in life and time is running out for me.

Hello, hope everybody out there is keeping their minds in check & not falling into trenches. Not sure what compelled me to come out here, todays christmas which I know is "make believe", where we gather, to forgive, to open gifts, to celebrate etc, today's been kinda of dull day which might come off as desperation which is not what i like to come off as, im just curious to know what are we actually celebrating & why does it have to be a specific occasion to forgive & be compassionate for one another on specific occasions, can't it just be everyday, doesn't that make more sense? Especially when it comes to hanging out with family, I just see it as a title where those same people would move on & find any reason to single you out from various reasons, i try to not let it bother me but it just cant be helped, im in my 20's & its been going on for several years now, i dont know if others suffer in the same cohort, maybe due to how things turned out since the coming years as let's be honest, things haven't really been looking promising in terms of what the future holds & how everything is expensive where we have less buying power & more hostility. Now im not much of a interesting guy which does play into social rank, where often times, im singled out & forced to remain in solitude all the time, then I end up stuck with the fact that nobody last with each other as time goes. I just dont know why everything has to be rocket science all the time when it comes to socialism, besides theres hardly anything to do unless youre gonna be spending money on things & not to sound boring but how can anybody be spending in a time like this, especially when renting. Anyways thats all for now. Thank you
