I know im crazy

I lived in Thailand before

And I really didnt like the food

Most people rave about Thai food and I understand because it does smell good

Crazy huh.

In Thailand most foods centre around chicken and pork and seafood and beef not so much.

But an interesting thing I noted about Thai men was their politeness and eagerness to help

But also thai people are shy to talk because if they cant speak English they feel embarrassed   Im the one who should feel embarrassed I would get my interpreter to say to them.

Thailand is what they call a developing country but in my time there I saw a country so far advanced in areas than Australia is

I became unwell and was seeing a pyschiatrist straight away no wait time.  The community spirit there is superior to here and it rare to hear a car beep a horn because everyone on road is courtesy minded.

I have heard of Australians shiver at the mention of going to a dentist in South eastern countries  Their hygiene professionalism the whole dentist experience is on par if not better than here in Aus and fraction of price.  The money saved on dental work is enough to have a holiday while you are there

I have so much respect for thai people.
Anyway just some light conversation

If anybody wants to know anything about medical in Thai you can talk on here from my experience.

Hi there op.

And l agree with you Australias almost backward in so many ways bc it's all so hell bent on being all so prim and proper and controlled and supposedly far superior to countries like that but if you ask me it's the other way around .

They're allowed to use their brains and good will in countries like that where as here we're all drilled and threatened into using ours or it's or else.

As you say common courtesy is second nature, good will and spirit, even try getting one free sample of some market stall here yet we're suppose to be rich them poor yet they'll offer anyone free samples at markets and street foods.

We pay a fortune for processed packaged crap from God knows where and of what age it even is by the time we get it or veggies for an aarm and a leg but what' even on them and then they bs on about quality, what a bloody joke and it'll cost you a fortune.

They have some of the freshest most beautiful foods in the world usually straight from farms or seas right there on the street for pittance, mountains of it.

And as you say dentistry, your psychiatrist, so many things , hear you loud and clear.

But for me one of the saddest is the good will and spirit, even on the roads as you say - beautiful chaos but yet good will, kindness but in all sorts of many many ways - all stuff just so so lost here now l almost feel ashamed of my own country these days, many can't even have a home of late or even eat properly.

1st world yeppa, that's us.

Yes the prim and proper part you mentioned makes me angry.

I think I understand what you mean.

Like Australia is the beacon for how the world should be.

I had a rant about this and beyond blue would not post it and the rant was only truth of how things are.
In Thailand the govt looks after their own people  If a Thai wanted university and no places left the foreigners would not be allowed in.  Many jobs are not open to foreigners also.  Thailand also wont let you own more than 49% of land value because they want it to stay in Thai hands.

It not good news for foreigners but it shows a govt policy of Thai looking after their country.

I cant use truth about how things really are because of free speech censorship of beyond blue.  Thai people also never seem stressed by anything.

I ordered some prawns from my local soi in thailand  Sorry soi means street.

These are live prawns so they needed boiling.  I said I be back around 12 to pick up.  12 oclock comes and I can hear all this noise from outside   They tracked me down somehow to deliver the prawns.

I mean how they know where I live.

I guess everybody knows where i live being the only western guy within miles

They wanted to deliver for me and thats just Thai.

Today I had some breakdown fit at coles because of this phone call I had

I was super confused and couldnt do the self serve and needed to get outside to stop a public meltdown.  The coles guy wouldnt take my bag to some storage and help me so I just dropped the bag and ran outside .  If it hapoened in Thai they would sit you down get you water and say something like calm down calm down it ok

Sadly yeah , exactly what l'm on about.

And free speech yeah , that's a good one .  l dunno , gov here are all so hopeless the way you describe thai is what a gov should be and the people too.

This is why well one reason there's no good will , the very gov's running the place doesn't even spread or teach good will - they just bring out more laws and rules and bigger fines, that's their good will.

Or if they're talking about our neighbours ,our neighbours, it's never our brothers or good friends, it's always strategic, economics , trading partner, or some such bs, nothing , ever , about our good friends or family, that's what our neighbours should  be- they don't even talk about NZ like that.

Sadly your right thru and thru unfortunately with the rest too.

Now and then there has been a Gov that treasures our neighbours bc they're our family and focuses on them rather than sucking up to the US , but sadly they're few. Same with actual good will , family , looking after ea other and such , but most of them, nope, wouldn't even know what it was.

l actually never get involved in it there's so much more but it's to me just too upsetting. head in sand for my own sanity.

PS, mind you , here at bb there are good reasons with a lot of fragility about with people here so they do have to take a lot of care with things said.

More referring to out there in life in general or even other forums.

But l hear you believe me and think about all this stuff a lot here myself to l notice it all evolving into all the directions to me that are just all wrong. Tbh ldk if that many even realize how money money money and materialistic it's all become here and gov's only make it worse .

Personally l reckon the change has to start with them and the way they talk and do things.

But sadly as usual we only usually have the better of the two worst to choose from and it'll be the same next one once again.

Hi Scared,

How are you today?

I am curious about the title of your post, “I know I’m crazy” why this title?

Anyway you don’t seem “crazy”

We all love Thai food by the way… although my son spent a month in Thailand last year and fell in love with everything Thai, even the food, which he didn’t like when he was younger.

Thailand is one place that I would love to visit and spend time in. My son said that he was expecting a culture shock but that didn’t happen. Everything is organised, neat and clean and he absolutely loves the Thai people who were friendly and like you pointed out, so polite.

Have a lovely day. Fiatlux 🙏🏼

I wrote " i know im crazy " because I hear too often that how much is written and said in favor of Thai cuisine by western cultures.  Even the Thais love their own food style.  And knowing this I feel on the outer or different to popular opinion.

Hence I admit I must be crazy for not liking it.  The best meal i ever had in Thailand was spagetti bolognese I had made myself.

That is funny! 🤣

I have Southern European friends who have never tried cuisines other than their own and it’s blasphemy for Italian’s to even suggest that other cultures have better food! 😄

I’m from Central Europe so I can eat everything; admittedly not all are to my palate either.

Food like people are an acquired taste! 🙏🏼

If you like making spagetti Bolognese I put finely sliced bacon into the meat.

Not too much but it gives it flavour and always make it soupy like texture.

I made sample pots for thai people in my street and it was a hit for them.

Most were unaware of beef being minced as it only available at certain markets in Thailand.  Thais dont eat red meat in general.  My first visit I was hoping for culture shock but I didnt get one.  Oh are they organised all right.  They seem to have 3 people for every job.  I order a beer then another at bar does the money then another brings the beer.   And they always cruising around just behind you filling up your glass after every second sip.  I dont like being waited on like that but others do im sure.

Last time there i drank 3 beers and they said i had 4 when I didnt.  Even the receipt said 3 beers paid for.   They wouldnt let up even bringing it up the day after.  It may only be a couple dollars but when you lived there you will come to understand why I stay firm and not give in.   In my soi ( street ) I was being charged more for a beer than a thai person pays.   I simply move to another shanty style bar where they treat me as equals.   When bar owner ask why i not come anymore to his bar I said because you charge me more because im farang    ( foreigner) and this is my home.
