Intrusive thoughts consuming my anxiety

hi everyone

I’ve recently had an intrusive thought ever since I heard someone tell their coming out story. I haven’t been taking my antidepressants regularly for 2 weeks, like not at all. There’s been no reason why and I had a panic attack in front of my partner.

I’m convincing myself of things that aren’t true, but I question every single thing about myself right now. I’ve started taking my antidepressants, contraceptive (yaz) and a hormone tablet for my hair loss. I’m a hormonal, paranoid, anxious insomniac. When I feel great and ignore the stupid intrusive thoughts that scare me into questioning my whole being, I feel fine.

it’s hard to speak about to others in my life as they don’t respond or know what to say. What are some strategies I can use to ignore these severe intrusive thoughts?

Hi, welcome

Having a mental health disorder is a serious problem that requires a consistent approach in regards to our own responsibilities. I also dont know the reason why you stopped taking your medication however regardless the reason teamwork between you and your GP/medical professional has to be airtight if you are to AVOID extra problems. I'm sorry, this was not meant to offend but we have thousands of members here that read posts and they will learn from our responses.

So the avoidance is better than cure. I assume you are seeing a professional, psychologist or the like as you are on meds, but I suggest talking to friends and family be limited because your expectations of them understanding you will leave you disappointed, why? because they wont be able to - understand an illness that is invisible and- they are limited as to help you. That is the purpose of forums like Beyond blue and therapists. Focus on those avenues.

Intrusive thoughts- You are not alone in having these, very common with fragile minds. I've just written a post on this topic. I'll put the link below -

You only need to read the first post of each thread. I'd be very interested in your thoughts on these.

Thankyou for being here.

Hi Honeybee

Intrusive thoughts are a common symptom of antidepressant withdrawal. If you have started taking your antidepressants again, it should settle within a few days.
One strategy you could try in the meantime could be to observe your thoughts without getting involved. It’s what people do in meditation. Just let the thoughts come and go without trying to ‘fix’ anything.
Good luck
