Hi, welcome

I was misdiagnosed in 2003 with Adult ADHD. I was 47yo then. 6 years of trying around 10 medications of course caused me grief as they didn't help. In 2009 I was diagnosed with bipolar2, dysthymia, depression.

The hypomania mirrored mania and impulsiveness and other symptoms pointed to ADHD. So out of that experience I'd recommend a second opinion.

I learned a lot about ADHD though. Best book was "ADHD in adults" by Weiss.

The older you get symptoms can mellow and daily exercise can help quell symptoms as well.

Jails have a high percentage inmates with ADHD but some ADHD sufferers are on the other side eg warders (I was one), police, customs etc.

With mental illness some illnesses cross over, fragments of other illnesses being present. I've no doubt I had some ÀDHD in my behaviour but not enough to confirm the second diagnosis. Bare that in mind.

There isn't many psychiatrists that specialise in adult ADHD unfortunately.

I hope that helps. Repost anytime

Hey mate, I’m a recently diagnosed ADHDer. I also have anxiety and depression. Definitely keen to know some answers here too! I am taking AHDH medication with *some* benefit (as well as an AD since 2015), but really need to look at some broader tips, tools and therapy I think. I just made a post about it, should be up soon if you want to take a look

Hi Bk 13

Thanks for replying to my post .Its a hard one i got diagnosed recently but most likely had adhd since childhood lol which explained my inattention at school and lack of concentration.

I started taking medication throughout the day and it is helping me alot ,it lowers my levels of anxiety which enables me to concentrate more and remember things more ,there is also other concerns like managing finances ,keeping freinds making new ones and socializing,i find all of those things very hard ,it can also be a lonely journey..??Do you find the same.?

Hi

Thanks for replying to me post

Yes its a hard one ,yes exercise has already helped me lower my levels of anxiety and depression. I had diagnosis with a few different medical professionals and they all came to the same conclusion, looking back since my childhood i feel i have 100% adhd,my main issues were learning retaining information which i was always falling behind ,this continued in office jobs i had it also always took a longtime for me to learn new procedures e.t.c I also sometimes made careless mistakes it was a constant struggle ,then i got to the stage were i was terrified of learning anything new

I recently started taking medication which has been a huge help ,but managing money socializing e.t.c are a is issue that i need help with ,thanks

Hi Shayne. Relatively new adhd diagnosis for me, settled into some meds now, which whilst I’m regular and remember to take them, I’m great. But if I forget, I’m pretty crap. I have anxiety and depression and have previously been diagnosed with cptsd but that’s subsided a lot. I have general short temper but the adhd meds really help with that too which is great!
