Three self-care things you did today!

We can do it BBers, we can do self-care.

Sleepy21 pointed out research that shows self-care REALLY helps!

Please share what you do for self-care so we can get inspiration, ideas and motivation to do it too.

Best wishes
EM

Hi all,

It's been busy in here as always, you're all working really hard and doing great. Golden, it's really important knowing when a service provider isn't meeting their obligations and standing up for yourself, especially when they're charging you bucketloads of money and just making things worse. I'm glad you have recognised you deserve better and have sought it with a new GP and ditching your dodgy psych. Very glad the helpline has actually been helpful.

Quirky, I feel for you in your situation. I'm lucky enough to have an amazing partner who has always encouraged me to take care of myself as well, around being a carer for him after major surgery. It's still exhausting even with emotional support and being able to take a time out sometimes - you have every right to take care of yourself and rest sometimes too, it's not selfish. We can't take care of anyone else if we run ourselves into the ground, it's that simple.

EM & J*, love your self care and special moments with family.

Okay, my turn:

- Keeping a self-care diary (when my scattered brain remembers) to remind myself I'm actually doing some things for myself (especially important when I'm getting caught up in the negatives).

- Forest walks.

- Finally freshened up my hair colour (haven't been able to for a month thanks to finger injury).

- Did my toenails rainbow colours.

- Quality time with my beautiful partner whenever possible.

- Trying to get in more social time with friends and family (tricky around the severe fatigue, but having some success).

Blue.

Hey Blue,

Thanks for your support 🙂 And the forest walks and rainbow toenails sound like something I would love too - will have to make a mental note for future. Take care, I have been reading and know things have been tough for you x

Hi everyone,

popping in here is motivating me to do something nice and caring for me today, as I'm having a rough one. The sunshine beckons, so maybe it's working in the garden?? It certainly needs it!

Have to pick up T soon for another Naplan replacement lesson- outside in the sunshine, drawing hopefully:) She wants to go shopping in the cheap shop for a presnt for her friend, but I don't think that is in the program!! Hopefully walking along the river will be soothing for me.

On Wednesday it was full of leaping fish! So surprising!

Happy day everyone,

Cheers,

J*

Hi everyone! I really do love this thread, I find that it's one of the threads I go to most often!

My three self-care things:

1) Made my coffee!

2) Will cook lunch and dinner (slowly incorporating cooking into my self-care!)

3) I will watch some anime!

Brushed teeth (finally)

Washed face with a scrub and moisturizer

(I gotta be doing these things daily, I know)

Googling doggie things. In hope of getting one soon; i don't wanna jinx myself though.

I smiled too reading all of your posts.
I've read back and all these posts have warmed my heart to read, from brushing teeth to Japanese sandwiches to colourful nails, to loving animals and WANTING a pet... they're such beautiful self-care things.
Quirky our darling BB family member, YOU DESERVE time.
You deserve time out, you will need time out especially when caring for another person who's ailing.
TAKE THAT TIME.
Brene Brown talks about writing ourselves a "Permission Slip" like kids get from their parents for school.
You HAVE permission to care for yourself.
You are so precious.
Each of us is a precious person, now we need to believe it.

Shelll, those sermons sound powerful for you.
I've found alot of comfort in taking time out, having a conversation with a "negative" emotion and THANKING it.

I did this with fear.
I did it with PTSD triggers which stemmed from fear for me.

I truly feel that this was the last piece of my mental wellbeing puzzle I put in.
Sure, there's probably more lol...
But I FELT the healing and from that time onwards, I've been able to experience joy and gratitude alot more whole heartedly.

My self-care lately:

~ spending LOTS of time in the garden

~ eating good food

~ getting my nails done today, a pretty cool PURPLE today lol.

We're sailing well together.

EVERY SINGLE thing we do with the intention of self-care is supporting our healing.

Love EMxxxx

Still more today ..

Went on a small walk. Very small. But it is a start. It is more than a walk for me as it is getting past the fear of opening my door and going outside.

Took some vitamins. Hardly ever do this.

Listening to some good music.

Ps this stuff all feels off/odd because i have been raised all life to hate myself. But actually getting angry now at my family, mum especially for all of this. Trying to make these changes of taking care of me. Rewiring my brain by doing these sorts of things daily. Well that is the hope i can keep up doing these things.

Hi all, oh Golden I am so very happy for you that you chose to go for a small walk. And even happier for you that you didn't allow fear to win. Self care plus plus plus.

And also did not let fear win in my own heart today.
