Hi Katy (waves to everyone)
You'll be OK this year just pace yourself and give yourself rewards and time out as needed.. it's only one year and then you get your Hons. You know you're a good student but one of my lecturers used to say it was the high achieveing students that put most pressure on themselves as they felt like anything below a Distinction felt like a failure!
Sorry I can't remember what book I was talking to you about... a scorcher here today and over the next couple of days I'm so relieved we have the aircon - mainly for poor Sam as he gets exhausted.. it's only 10.30 am here and it's already nearly 30 degrees... the cost is worrying but what can we do... definitely will be using it today and tomorrow!
I hope you have a great Sunday. What days do you have classes etc or how often do you have to go in to Uni? How long or extensive is your Hons thesis?
Take it easy kid! cheers!

Hello
I can tell I'm going to be slack posting here, apologies! If you could see the stack of reading I have surrounding me, you'd understand! I'm terrible at having it in piles on the lounge, instead of using my study desk, and Storm knocks it on the floor every time I leave the house - I'm seriously the most disorganised of students, but somehow the mad method has gotten me this far.
EM - thanks so much for your words of encouragement. You're right that anxiety should really just shoosh for a bit. He can be a chatterbox. What have you studied? if you care to share, if not, perfectly reasonable also. I'm kind of missing the usual study. Thesis writing is a somewhat lonely endeavour.
If I find some downtime I'll have to look up your gardening thread. My 100 and something pot plants have all had a nice drink today. We're in for a few days of rain. Summer seemed to end rather suddenly here!
So you have a partner working in the states. I wonder if his travel has been impeded by covid? Does he travel a lot?
Hanna - hopefully they have thought to install a cost efficient aircon in your home. It would make sense, being in Housing, but then of course, Housing don't always make sense! It's cool here today. I had planned a Greek salad for dinner, but I'd rather a big bowl of pasta. I'm sure Sam will be grateful for the cooler weather when it arrives over your way.
My poor little Stormy has a sore eye. It's been closed all day, and when I peel it open it's so red! I've called the vet but it's a public holiday here, so he said he'll see her tomorrow. Poor little girl.
My Honours proposal, which I'm currently working on is 4000 words. The thesis will be 10,000. I've never worked on such a large document, so it's hard to conceptualise. Hopefully it will all come together. I do online uni sessions on Fridays. I was supposed to start prac tomorrow, but they have had an interruption to their plans, and I can't start until next week now. It will give me more time to work on my proposal, so that's fine by me.
How's your music going? Are you getting lots of practice in? I hope things have settled down with the rowdy neighbours.
Do keep popping by. It's always lovely to hear from everyone, even if I might be around a bit less.

Hi Katy, just stopped by here briefly before music lesson - I've been out this morning. So sorry to hear Stormy is having surgery on her eye and you are upset - I gosh do I know how we worry for our fur babies! I hope everything is OK - has she been having trouble seeing or how did you know she had the ulcer? Poor girl!
That won't be cheap either Katy.. I have music this afternoon but I will definitely come by again when I am home and see how Stormy is going. I'm sure she will be OK, animals are wonderful the way they rally after anything like anaesthetics.
So sorry you've been here alone, sending heaps of fluffy cuddles from little Sam to you and Stormy! oxoxoxoxoooo

Hey Katy
How is Stormy?
How are YOU?
It's so stressful when our fur babies need surgery. Hugs hugs and lots of cute poodle snuggles to you and Stormy. Bless him.
I can't think far beyond Stormy atm but I'll press on to respond to your post.
You know re: your organisational study spaces.... I bought my kids a rainbow coloured set of 10 drawers from Spotlight (the saw them at the Reject Shop too) and they've been fantastic to set text books and study notes in them for each subject.
Their top drawer for pens, pencils, technology cords etc.
I think they cost around $30 each set.
They're on castor wheels too so you could roll them into the bathroom lol or somewhere then close the door when you go out, so Stormy doesn't find them.
Then roll it out to wherever you are (my kids used to like studying together at the dining table and there'd be all these sets of coloured drawers around it too lol).
Alexa has an awesome Uni Tutor that has mixed Clinical Psych with another one I think Medical Psych? into one subject and one topic is Meditation.... right up Alexa's alley. She chose to do part time Honours instead of FT, mainly bec she's working up 35-60h per week, has her kids 50% and wanted to have a life lol. But the "life" part will be majorly interrupted!
Everything will be.
I can't really reveal what I studied due to IDing me. There was a pretty suss set of posts on another thread, which Sophie_M intervened on. I get stalked by demon & minions.
Suffice to say I chose a field then Specialised in same field.
Gosh by the end of this year, my 3 degrees were finished 30 years ago lol!!!
I DO NOT feel "that old"! 😂🤣
I'm fortunate to have dodged some heavy stuff so I'm all good with my age!
My Fiancee is a U.S. Citizen. Born in NY, raised in California. He lives in "our apartment" in Seattle. Travels across the U.S. as an Engineer for a large company. He arrived in Alaska yesterday and travelled to a remote mine today from Anchorage.
No communicado for a few days now.
He only gets 3 weeks leave per year and his company doesn't like approving more than 1 week at a time! So they did once and he came over for 3 weeks. It was wonderful.
I've been there (and travelling to Europe for his work as well) for a total of 3 months I think... that's it.
He still thinks we can see each other this year but I think he's out of touch with all the Covid reactions from other countries.
There it is lol.
Love EM

Hello all
I didn't even know eyes got ulcers. The vet referred to it as the spontaneous type ie. not caused by an irritant. Surgery involved scratching the eyeball in a cross hatch to stimulate the cells to respond and heal the ulcer. Interesting - and costly! Sad to say that was the biggest source of stress. It took me 2 hours of feeling sick about how to pay for it to work out that I was (very) in front on my electricity account, and to request a refund. Far out! Anyway, Stormy is home and she's fine.
My poor supervisor rang for a chat just at the end of the two hour stress fest and copped a very strung out me. She's pleased with the direction I'm heading with my work though, so that's great. Now, to pull it off!
EM - Love the idea of rainbow coloured draws, thanks. Part time Honours sounds like the go for your daughter if she has lots on. I was debating between psych and social work when I was thinking about studying - they're both really interesting. I'm glad I went with social work though, as there's such a variety of opportunities for work.
How wonderful for your partner getting to travel with his work. It will be nice when you get to chat again and he can tell you about where he's been. That area sounds really beautiful. I worked at a remote mine site here in the west once, and I remember walking outside the camp and just looking at the sheer vastness of nothing but red dirt, spinifex, and sky. Really amazing. I don't think I'll ever forget that moment.
Well back to today's lovely vista of paper and books lol
Thanks all for popping in and wishing us well xo

Hello Katy,
It's great to hear that Stormy is home & on the mend.
"She's pleased with the direction I'm heading with my work" - that definitely needs to go on a note in your jar... that's a biggy for shushing that anxiety voice.
Hugs

Hi Katy,
Eyes can get ulcers all right - so glad to hear Stormy is on the mend! How good that you can get a refund on your electricity to help pay the vet's bill - what a relief for you! We're always juggling money on the pension aren't we?
Hope everything settles down for you - all this on top of all the Uni reading! Poor you. So good that your supervisor thinks you're on the right track with the thesis - you need to stop doubting yourself!
Hugs from us here oxoxo
