Introducing mmMekitty

I am mmMekitty, named for my cat, (my avatar), who lived 7 years. It has been five or so years since, but I still miss her. Mekitty an I had a simpler relationship than any I have had with people.

The photo is the one I to retrieved after my hard drive crashed. She had wandered off, was away for six days, when she turned up again in the middle of the night. I cried with relief. This was the photo I used for her Lost Cat poster I put up around the neighbourhood at the time.

As for me, I cannot see the detail of the photo nearly as well as I did then, and then my sight was poor. I am now using text-to-speech software, zooming on my pc, voice over. Since I find this stuff difficult, I get really frustrated.

I used to keep all my emotions in check, so much so, I thought and said I did not have any feelings or reactions to anything. That changed and I could not deny the existence of my emotions. It was a terrifying time. What was happening to me? I was falling apart and all this unidentifiable stuff was pouring out.

I have had to learn so much since I began seeing the Psychiatrist I saw back then (1993 - 95). From learning I had to put words to the experiences, name, own, accept them. Still uncomfortable. I beat up on myself too much, I know.

I used to do things I can no longer do to my own satisfaction. I still sing, but not like I used to. I cannot paint like I did. I cannot use pen and paper to write, so have managed to adapt to keyboard. That is something. I have been working on being more sociable, less isolated, but last year, when COVID-19 retrictions required face masks be worn, I found I could not - which is what brings me here.

I have had to curtail so much of what I had been doing. I am feeling the isolation now. How ironic! I resisted even thinking I needed anybody, then I try to have some friends, join a writers' group, get help with things like housework and shopping, going to places for fun and entertainment, only to have to withdraw again because I cannot wear a mask. It bites, like a scorpion.

I will make a thread, now I found the place to click to create one! I think my problem was with how I have my desktop appearance. It looks like any ordinary link, hiding below another, for creating a feed link. Now I know.

I suppose I will get around to talking more about myself. I will need to be careful about how involved I become, so please, don't expect me to pop up everywhere. I would burn out if I did that.

Hi mmMekitty

Napping with a book is required isn’t it. This week is a sleepy week for me too. You have been dealing with some stressful stuff and some extra sleep will help with lowering stress hormones.

I’m not liking the slow recovery it’s so frustrating and I’m being good taking time to heal the bad weather has helped. I was up stressing not sleeping last night because I have an appointment with physio so I can get some exercise.

Rest and enjoy the book

Hi everyone,

Thanks for messages. 😻 They are so very much appreciated.

I was able to get a COVID-19 test this morning. It was better, lessuncomfortable than I have thought. I didn't know the pathologist would need to take a sample from the back of my tongue. I have a strong gag reflex, which was good, she said, because that means she is getting the sample from the right place. The thin little, what are they, fuzzy sticks, she probed my nostrils with were as nothing compared to the back of my throat swab. No eyes tearing up or nothing. Just the one moment of gag reflex, which also gave me a moment of tingling down my arms, was quick & all done within a cminute. She was very efficient, making no fuss &, I think, in this way, I was made to also feel there was nothing to tenxe up about. 😺

My home helper came & we were there at 9:15am. The person there said it was good we came then, as earlier in the morning there was a line up, but when we arrived there were no other people waiting. So I didn't hav to wait at all. We passed one persoarriving as we were leaving. & I was home again before 10:am. NO worries!

They will send results via text, & I must not delee the text, so I can show them at the hospital Tuesday morning.

I had a phone call earlier. Now I have to fast from midnight, only having sips of 400ml water between midnight & 6am Tuesday. That is a little harder than I was originally told. I have to shower Monday night & in the morning too, she said.

Now all I need do is to make sure I have gathered up all I am taking - nothing I don't need - with me.

Happy New Year! last📯🎇🎆🎇

Hi mmMekitty

I'm pleased you got the Covid test done so quickly! That's one thing out of the way.

It's usual to fast from midnight the night before your surgery. When I was nursing we used to put nil by mouth signs above the patient's bed and take their water jug away.

It's a good idea to put drinks and food items out of the way before you go to bed the night before hospital! Some patients would have a sandwich and cuppa for breakfast before coming to hospital and we had to cancel their surgery!

Having an operation is not the nicest way to start the year, but it's worth it if it keeps you well and healthy, and after the op you can concentrate on recovering and feeling good again. One step at a time.

Big hug!

Dear mmMekitty~

I think it would be and excellent idea to hold that party of yours in my igloo late Monday night/Tuesday morning. We can be guzzling stacks of pizzas and pinching the flagons of alcohol from the kiwis plus playing horrible music LOUD - all the while watching you enjoy your 400ml of water

Thanks everyone! 💎❤️💎❤️💎❤️💎❤️

& it's just as well I don't drink alcohol anymore, or what do you suppose they'd do if I turned up still drunk from New Year's celebrating? (Do they check the alcohol content in one's blood before operating? )

Now let's get the party really started, with our rendition of Glen Miller's "In the Mood"!

Good choice, but I can't think of anything Glen Miller did involving cats except Tiger Rag - would that do?

Good morning.

I snoozed & woke two minutes before midnight (Qld time). apart from one solitary unhappy person swearing & slamming a door once,, & some usual sounds of nearby traffic along the main road at the end of my street, my audio book playing, it was very, very quiet around here. I hope I wasn't snoring - people would have heard it all over the suburb!

My home helper emailed me to say she is bringing a spaghetti lunch, & some cherries for me. She said, "It is for long life as my mother said, haha". She is a 💎, worth her weight, twice over, in diamonds. 😻

& of-course, now it's January 1, the 4th really feels close enough to reach out & touch. My 🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋are swarming like 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝who've had their hive disturbed.I feel I might make 🧈in my belly!
