Hi, this is my first time posting to this forum. I am 21 and have endured a brain injury and psychosis. I've had to take medication, which has put me in a depressive state (slurred words, ability to function, etc). Luckily, I'm working with doctors and psychiatrists to get out of this hole that I'm currently in.
Right now, I'm working hard to stay active. I like to do activities such as play golf and swim. This type of activity is not as heavily intensive, though I want to build myself up so that I feel 100% confident when doing these activities.
Having depressive thoughts is like drowning. I feel like not enough people have an understanding of what it's like to have mental health issues and that sucks. That's the reality of the situation and the only thing that you can really do is move forward and try to stay positive, but be realistic at the same time, which is quite difficult to do.
In my opinion, people with mental health issues require people with a deep logical understanding, emotional feeling and honest characteristics. Having people around you with these characteristics helps a lot.

I’m really sorry to hear about your brain injury, psychosis and the side effects of your medication.
I can only imagine how many challenges you have had to deal with since your injury. Hugs to you.
Good on you for persevering, working with your doctors and keeping yourself active. You certainly have the right outlook-plough on and always maintain hope for better days ahead.
I have also found that the level of mental health literacy and empathy in the community is lacking. As for the people I have encountered since becoming a carer for my child who lives with a chronic mental health condition, I can easily put them into three groups. Those who get mental health, those who want to get mental health but need help and those who will never get it. The trick is to know the difference and act accordingly.
