Do you have a happy place? A place where you can exhale, and feel okay, if just for a moment?
Is it your backyard, or a shed you work in? Is it at the gym? Do u breathe a sigh of relief when you close the door to your therapists office, knowing you can talk about ur life without inhibition?
When I was 22 I became a gym-junkie. I went to a gym that was mostly older people and wasn't about body-pride but was truly about being fit and strong. I used to love going there, zoning out, and reading magazines or watching music videos on the gym tvs. I think it was important to have a phsyical place that I felt welcomed and okay. The gym trainers all knew me and told me I was doing great at my regimen... it was a warm place to go and I went often. It was safe.
What's ur fave happy space?

You are not alone. Is there anything you would like to share here regarding this? always happy to listen. I'm sorry you don't feel safe at home and need to seek safe spaces outside ur own home. That sounds frustrating.

Hi Chappo, Sleepy and All,
I generally find anything to do with water to be comforting and to be a place where I can feel safe.
Water can be comforting. Even a warm face washer on my face on a cold day, or a hot one on a cold day, water running over my hands and through my fingers, being able to float in water or even paddle in it can help me feel safe.
I read once that by imagining an event like say floating in warm water feeling totally safe, can help our minds to calm down and relax as parts of our minds apparently have trouble acknowledging what is in our imagination and what is real. So by imagining something we also experience the feel good chemicals.
When I go to bed tonight I am going to take myself to a safe place in my mind, floating in a warm ocean under a full moon...with no hungry sharks to consider!
Cheers all from Dools

beautiful dools
thank you
like u i love observing the water, it can really talk to us. So beautiful and communicative.
My car used to be a safe place too. I remember resting in it on lunchbreaks and listening to music and feeling very at peace. I guess I came to associate it with downtime and recharging. we had a teeny break room that was ridiculously awkard, you had to sit next to the boss and scoff down ur food - so I'd prefer to just hang out in my car.
I'm feeling a bit sad today, like I don't have a safe place anymore.
Sorry for depressing any1

Dear Sleepy,
I am sure many people here totally understand feeling sad, depressed, lonely and so many other things as well. We each feel these differently and deal with it in our own way.
If you can, close your eyes, take a few deep breaths, listen to the thoughts in your mind, acknowledge they are there, deal with them if you can, or ask your mind to stop dribbling on for a while.
Count your breathes in and out. Calm your mind a little. Consider a safe place in your mind. It doesn't have to be a real place, it can be any safe place your mind desires.
Expand on that vision. Really consider that place and how it makes you feel.
Once you have that image in your mind, no one can take it away from you! It will always be there along with any other safe place you desire to create in your mind.
So right now I am wishing you peace. I am hoping you are able to accept the sadness you are feeling as being a part of you. It does not have to stay with you forever. It is there. A safe place is available to you in your mind as well.
I'm about to go for a walk. That too is a safe feeling for me, being out in Nature, feeling a connection to the land.
Wishing everyone a sense of feeling safe and being able to find a calm place in your minds.
Cheers from Dools

hi mark thank u so much for sharing, (did i read that it was ur birthday? CONGRATS!)
i'm also a homebody at heart but find it hard to relax now and don't like being home. it doesn't feel safe for me. But when I was kid I could hang out at home for hours, getting up to projects. Probably hated to leave and socialise as I was very shy. Home can be like a protective fortress from the world....
I had a really rough day today and have found out i'm going to be applying now for the NDIS which I have mixed feelings about. Thank u for asking after me and being caring... much appreciated

My old house was broken into by my ex wife and didn't feel safe there after that.Since I have moved I feel better but check the lock a 100 times. When I go out on my motorbike I feel like it's just me and the road and I can hide putting a helmet on. I think it will be awhile again before I can ride again after the surgery I had.
I am sorry you haven't been feeling so good.I have the NDIS and it has been good for my kids for their treatment.
Take care,
Mark.
