Where is your safe space?

Do you have a happy place? A place where you can exhale, and feel okay, if just for a moment?

Is it your backyard, or a shed you work in? Is it at the gym? Do u breathe a sigh of relief when you close the door to your therapists office, knowing you can talk about ur life without inhibition?

When I was 22 I became a gym-junkie. I went to a gym that was mostly older people and wasn't about body-pride but was truly about being fit and strong. I used to love going there, zoning out, and reading magazines or watching music videos on the gym tvs. I think it was important to have a phsyical place that I felt welcomed and okay. The gym trainers all knew me and told me I was doing great at my regimen... it was a warm place to go and I went often. It was safe.

What's ur fave happy space?

Hi Sleepy,

I think the white light of protection is probably a witchy thing- U know, draw a circle of protection, circle around a pentagram, that kind of thing. I picked it up in my hippie days.
the thing I have found with many spiritual practices is that they have so much in common. I’m a christian now, grew up as one in a strict family then moved away from it and sought spiritual direction everywhere ( literally lol) and coming back to christianity , I use a lot of the same, in essence, practices. Like, I used to do this thing of connecting with the divine energy thru my chakras...imagining a string running down my spine and leaving thru my feet and connecting to earth energy, and also coming out the top of my head and shooting up to the stars and connecting with cosmic/ divine.
now when I take a moment in nature to pray and feel gods presence, it’s just like when I used to do that. Sorry if that’s a bit too much, it’s just that I believe we are spiritual beings and that getting hung up on how we define it (god/ divine spark) doesn’t help. IME.
what’s your take on it?
thankyou for saying you appreciate my ideas and creativity here. I appreciate you too Sleepy. Your steady persistence in getting to the root of things, your generosity in helping others.
I can relate to your bedroom being a safe space growing up. Me too. Maybe safety also has to do with control. Like, even kids can control their own bedroom, whereas the rest of the house isn’t in their control. When we can gain control in our lives, it can help our MH.
Cheers

Hi Sleepy,

I expressed that so badly!

I would rather say it’s a new age type thing, the white light of protection meditation. But as I tried to say, ( but expressed badly and waaay too much info) IMO it’s not limited to one particular spiritual practice.
hope that makes sense.
cheers
