We can do it BBers, we can do self-care.
Sleepy21 pointed out research that shows self-care REALLY helps!
Please share what you do for self-care so we can get inspiration, ideas and motivation to do it too.
Best wishes
EM

Helloooo fellow self-carers, my wonderful old friends and welcome to all the new members to our thread!
WEL-COME!
So much self-care to be impressed by everyone! So MANY great ideas!
I'm relieved Sleepy got some thermals lol.
Well I'm gonna be real honest, I'd have a hard time thinking of any self-care over the past week... I've been extended beyond my usual limits. Not even time to visit the forums (which is saying something for me!)...
After seeing this thread earlier, I realised I needed to do some self-care to even write anything!
So I went off to do some and come back phew.
Tonight I:
~ reheated some leftovers for dinner
~ had a warm scrubby bath, did a face scrub, washed my hair... nice.
~ I'm struggling to think of another one.... ummm spent time with my family. We're going through and dealing with a real lot atm. Praying for unity and love to keep us through this time.
Lots of love to you all

Today:
1) I will cook a home-cooked meal (trying to make pad-thai!)
2) Work on my assignments (this is self-care for me because then I will be less stressed about it in future)
3) Play my video games later tonight which will make me happy 🙂

Hey missep, I totally agree that prioritising assignments and other obligations can be great self-care!
Always great to reduce that stress lol.
My self-care yesterday:
~ gardened all day until it got dark lol.... had my sweet new baby hens to keep me company.
~ had an easy dinner
~ did the grocery shopping and put some extra nice things in for myself and the kids, yum!

Hi all,
It's funny the way this thread motivates self care! It does the same for me Em.
Today I stayed in bed and let H do the morning busy-ness. And asked him to make me a cuupa, which he kindly did!
Made lemon/lime meringue tarts for T's lunch box treats. Altho she's already eaten half of them! Oh well! But made a large lime tart as well, so it's a treat for us too.
Meditated on my values which promote my actions, realising that I do these things out of a deep need to live according to my values of home made healthy food, which is as local and least wasteful as possible. (We have limes and eggs, so the tarts were a good choice). It made a difference to how I viewed the time spent cooking, helping me be at peace.
Had a long hot bath, with my essential oil blend for hormonal balance.
Cheers,
J*

Hi jstar and all
Will you tell more about the essential oil blend. I am slowly learning about essential oils myself. And have know started cleaning with eucalyptus essential oil. Which I absolutely love the scent off.
My self care
1..got some more fresh air and sunshine. This mostly always helps me feel better
2...Sung when I was by myself in the car. Loud. It also helps me feel better.
3...drunk plenty of water

Hellooo awesome self-carers! 😁😂🤭🖐🌺
I'm so grateful for YOU ALL being on this thread, it's such a wonderful place to be. 😍
Thankyou.
Well I must say that yesterday I felt incredibly relaxed, happy, positive and just "all together".
I think it's the first real day of great mental wellbeing I've felt (maybe since forever, IDK!).
I drove to work feeling great.
Sure there were pretty hard work issues I was about to walk into.
Yep all the other issues in my life were still there.
It was ME who just felt differently.
Knowing what works and sticking to it has virtually cured the C-PTSD and there are no signs of anxiety or depression.
I said to my psych friend that maybe I'm delusional lol!!
She said not any more! hahaha... she was the one who witnessed me dissociating and told me kindly to get help immediately, so I did.
I'm so grateful!
Today I:
~ took the day off work to care for Yvette who was awaiting a Covid test result. It was negative, yay!
~ spent 6h in the garden whilst Yvette slept. It gets frustrating finding garbage demon buried and threw around places, but I took THREE full garbage bags of rubbish to the bin and I'm GETTING THERE. So happy. (Crikeys I just realised our bin is chockers and it was only emptied this morning hahaha).
~ today I received a message from my brother, unprovoked lol, and I was able to sort things out for my mother and everyone was on the same page. This proves that miracles DO happen lol!
What a surprise that was, I think we're going to be able to get through this challenging time and out the other side in GOOD spaces with each other.
I put the last one as self-care mainly because I followed my instincts (against all original MH advice in regards to supporting my mother in any way) and I feel really good for attempting to repair the relationship with my only sibling to do what needs to be done in a collaborative way.
EVERYONE feels heard and validated and cared for.
This leaves me to better care for myself.
Happy days.
Love EM

Hi all,
So GOOD to read your last post Em! Glad you followed your instincts- you have excellent instincts!
Out with the old, and in with the new! Go you!
Shell I also LOVE singing at the top of my lungs in the car! I sometimes do it with my d in car, and she HATEs it! But I'm sure it will inspire her in future lol!
Eucylyptus is sooo good! I'm glad you're getting into EO's- they are awesome! Our sense of smell links to the limbic..? I think...system, deep in our brain. I just found a pub med doc which corroborates ...
"A lot of studies have demonstrated the antianxiety effect by essential oils from rose, lavender, lemon, and peppermint"
There was more big words, but I left them out 🙂
My hormone balancer is a pre mixed blend from one of the two main suppliers- I won't say which one cos I don't want to start an argument! Plus I don't think it matters, as long as they're good quality essentil oils (EO's).
It has clary sage, peppermint, spanish sage and fennel. Clary sage is an important womens herb.
Citrus oils like orange, lemon, bergamot, are very uplifting. photo toxic tho so don't dab them on and then go out in the sun.
A drop of lavender in very hot water can bathe cuts and infections. Calming, soothing, antibacterial.
Speaking of, I'm off to infuse some oils and drink a hot toddy while I read my book!
Happy self careing everyone.
PS Sleepy suggested on another thread that hot water bottles are good self care, and I think she has a good point! So soothing and comforting!
Cheers,
J*
