Encouragement for weight loss and healthy eating

Hi Everyone.

I am just going to put this title out there and see what happens. Later on I will try to add old thread titles relating to this issue.

People may have wonderful weight loss stories to share, ideas on exercises that are beneficial, reducing binge eating tips etc.

Healthy recipes will also be welcome. Maybe even healthy foods you enjoy but your family consider to be rabbit food! Ha. Ha.

Unfortunately for depression sometimes means binge eating and comfort foods. A carrot just is not comfort food to my brain! I need to find ways to rechannel that way of thinking!

All ideas and thoughts are welcome here!

Cheers for now from Mrs. Dools

Hi Paul and Everyone,

I too would love to be able to afford Lite and Easy. Not possible on my wage though, especially with my husband still not finding employment. Not sure how far out of the city they deliver either. We are about 100 k.m. from the CBD up the highway.

Might be interesting to have a look at their menus though, not sure if you can do that without joining? Would provide some wonderful ideas for healthy snacks and meal choices.

My husband has been doing the cooking lately and some of his meals are not healthy choices. If I say something, even very diplomatically that a bit less fat would be good for me, he tells me off for complaining, goes on that I don't appreciate anything he does and so on. Oh dear.

So for my part I can try to eat a healthy breakfast and stay away from unhealthy snacks during the day.

That is a little hard when my old dear clients want to fill me up on cakes and biscuits and take offence when I say no thank you. One lady wanted to give me the plate full of about 50 different biscuits to take home with me.

I need more will power! Ha. Ha.

Cheers all from Mrs. Dools

Morning Mrs Dools 🙂

Lite N Easy isn't actually too costly. For me for one week (breakfast lunch dinner on 1500 calories) it was about $165 (inc delivery).

You can look up the menus online without ordering 🙂

The biggest thing I notice with Lite N Easy is portion sizes. I use to struggle with that (as in eating too much).

Is that cost just for meals for you Emmy, or does that cover meals for your Dad and also some for hubby?

Just mine. Suppose it does get costly once I then add on Dad and hubby's food. But I use to get a few takeaways so it probably works out even

Hi,

You can order just dinners too

5 Dinners$64.00

7 Dinners$82.00

10 Dinners$112.00

The 1200 calorie one is $144 for 7 days breakfast morning tea lunch afternoon tea and dinner.

If you want to do a calorie controlled diet the dinners are useful to track calories by. Homemade dinners are sometimes harder to judge.

Myfitnesspal allows you to enter all the food you eat and will count the calories for you. It is a cheaper option doing it yourself.

Portions are the big thing. Breakfast is often cereal like sultana bran or just right or sustain but only 1/4 to 1/2 a cup with 1/2 cup of skim milk plus 1 piece of multigrain or oatbread with 1 tablespoon of jam or honey but no butter.

Lunch is a protein about the size of just your palm (not finger), salad and a small dinner roll or 1 slice of multigrain bread. If it's hot the same rule follows but with 1/2 cup of cooked pasta or rice with veg and protein plus fruit. Plus a small carb snack for afternoon tea Examples of lunches and afternoon tea are:

  • Roll with bacon and salad 1 tablespoon of mayonaise with 1/2 cup peaches and apricots and a small piece banana and apple bread
  • Nachos (12 light corn chips) with savoury meat/bean mix 1/4 cup, 1/4 cup salsa 2 tablespoons cheese. Plus fresh fruit apple or orange or mandarin and roasted chickpeas
  • Wrap with 1/2 cup chicken breast tomato and guacamole. Plus a peach and pear cup.
  • Tomato soup (small bowl) with a piece of ciabatta bread with a tablespoon of butter, green apple and choc hazlenut fruit mix (6 hazlenuts, 10 sultanas, 6 choc buds like small cooking ones)
  • Corned beef and mustard relish and tomato on 2 pieces of wholegrain bread, red apple, multigrain rice crackers (10 small ones

Hot lunches are normally in a small bowl, smaller than a bread and butter plate so like an old fashioned cereal bowl not the flat wide ones that are favoured now.

Hope this helps

Carol

Hi Everyone,

Thanks Carol and Emmy for all the explanations here about Lite N Easy. It does sound wonderful. One thing with having your meals delivered, is the wonderful variety of food you can have, without eating left overs.

You don't have to buy a whole bag or container of one ingredient then try and find ways to consume the rest of it. Hope that makes sense! You have variety without having a fridge or cupboard full of half empty packets.

Due to a couple of weeks off work after my sinus operation, I am actually going grocery shopping with my husband tomorrow. I will look around for some healthier options to snack on.

Thanks Carol for such a wonderful run down of the food available. I will make time to check out their site later!

Happy healthy eating everyone! From Mrs. Dools

I'm sick of feeling nauseous and dealing with mystery stomach pain, so I'm going to drink diet milkshakes, that I bought last year, before they expire. Then I will probably just drink sustagen or something to cut down on the amount of bread I eat.

I'm not really focusing on losing weight, I just want to feel better and I feel better drinking, so we'll see...

Finances are horrific thanks to my dad leaving all the household bills to me, until next year probably, so maybe I'll do more next year

Not that I know if it's even worth it, maybe I should just resign myself to being fat and sick. I am pretty worthless to everybody

Narelle,

You are not worthless.

Myfitnesspal is a free application that allows you to enter all the things you eat or drink in a day and counts the calories for you. If you aim for 1200 a day you will lose weight.

Eating more fruit and veg and drinking water can help you feel better.

Milk and dairy can often exacerbate stomach pain.

Make sure you check in with a GP if your pain persists.

Carol xx

Thanks Carol, I just have to believe that I'm not...which is hard when you're me.

I will download that app, it might help 🙂

I have had pain intermittently for about 6 years and have had an ultrasound, CT scan and endoscopy to investigate, nothing was found so I have assumed it's anxiety 😞

Hi Narelle,

It's good they didn't find anything. At least anxiety is something you can work on.

Hopefully with enough people telling you are worthy you may start to believe it.

Have hope xx
