Are your moods are like an elevator with no control buttons? Mine are.
Ground floor ... I feel normal, content, just quietly getting on with ordinary, everyday life, loving my family and friends. This is as it should be. And maybe there's nothing wrong with me after all. Live.
Going up, top floor. Oh look! There's a shiny thing! I want to sing! Let's go buy stuff! Let's have a big party and invite the world! What could possibly go wrong! Woooooo hoooooooo! Play.
Going up (a different day) top floor. What do you mean you don't agree with me! I'm right! Why don't you think like me? Keep up! How can you be so illogical? I'll f-ing shred you if you don't do what I want! Rage.
Going down, lower ground floor. Flat, listless, can't be bothered. Can still function but it's a drag. Cope
Going down, basement. I'm never getting out of bed again. I'm useless, worthless. Total idiot, how could I ever imagine I could do anything, nothing ever goes right because I'm wrong. I'm a burden to everyone. Hide.
Welcome to my bipolar world. It's always been my world, but it's only recently I've seen it for what it is. About 15 years ago I was diagnosed with clinical depression during one of my 'basement' times. I had a lot of lower ground floor times too, on and off, and I kept out of the basement (so I thought) with alcohol. Until that took me into the blackest ever basement with only one obvious way out. Having survived doing something very dangerous I realised I had to stop drinking or I really would die.
I never took much notice of the playful times or the anger, that was just me, I was fun sometimes, and sometimes I was a devastating bitch. Ha! Deal with it people!
Well, yes, but in time the elevator started going up and down too quickly and, as I became more aware and more knowledgeable about mental health I realised this wasn't good. Doctor. Diagnosis. Bipolar 2. Lithium.
So, I've started this thread in the hope that other bipolar folks will join me, to share experiences and strategies. In my 'beginners' understanding, we are different from other fellow travellers of the back dog. While we experience depression as many others on this site do, the hypomanic or manic ups and, for some the rapid cycling that can happen, are experiences unto themselves.
I want to learn more, and I want to share with others. I hope my fellow elevators will join me here.
BTW, it's a ground floor day in my head today! Yay!
Love
Kaz

Airies- I hope you are coping with the lockdown
Quirky- I think all first time parents think they know it all. Remember if your kids turned out ok then you played a large role in that.
My partner has been coming to visit me each day. My eldest daughter came this afternoon. She brought me more books to read. Tonight's dinner was pumpkin soup, cottage pie and tiramazu. Am really looking forward to getting out tomorrow for the day. My youngest daughter is picking me up at lunch time. I spend most of my time laying on my bed reading or doing cross stitch.
Hope everyone is doing ok.

I like Gorgonzola and lots of cheeses, my downfall is my love of cheese,I can hae a meel of fruit and cheese and capers and olives.
I love fruit to and didnt know fruit was bad and full of sugar. Little children these days are restricted in the fruit amount they eat. maybe my problems were and are caused by too much fruit!! I could live on fruit alone plus a bit of cheese.
Food is a way of sharing and communicating.
Are there any other fruit loves out there.? I cant think of one fruit I dont like!!

I just filled my fruit bowl. Mmmmmmm. Going through a banana and apple stage. I love pineapple and mango. Berries are good too!!!
Fruit is far better for you than processed sugary snacks. Fruit has vitamins, minerals and fibre. It's all about balance......
I love capers. Olives in smaller amounts. They have to compliment the other flavours on the plate.

I had to work at balance... even then I fail at times.
Bad night sleep. Anxiety. Work + insincere people. I am wondering why I have so many fake insincere people around me and I am realising either I am the issue, or I am a people pleaser and they etort this.
I exist in times of crisis.... a port in a storm.... then when I try to chat, say gudday, hows the weather - nothing. Until the next drama they have. BLAH BLAH my kids, BLAH BLAH money, BLAH BLAH whatever. I thought convos about random chit chat was a thing too? HOW WRONG I AM!
It has set my anxiety off big time. I am not sure who is real anymore. 😞 Even the observer, (man thing), has stated how badly my friends treat me.

Velvet I have had people I thought were friends who have sent me one or two small texts in reply to mine They tell me they are too upset and traumatised by what happened even though they did no lose their house or business. I know everyone was upset but I had been there for family crisis, grandchildren and children issues. I gave hugs and listening but now I get silence. I had lent these people money , gave them work and was always supportive.
I now know they were never true friends and I need to accept this..
