Are your moods are like an elevator with no control buttons? Mine are.
Ground floor ... I feel normal, content, just quietly getting on with ordinary, everyday life, loving my family and friends. This is as it should be. And maybe there's nothing wrong with me after all. Live.
Going up, top floor. Oh look! There's a shiny thing! I want to sing! Let's go buy stuff! Let's have a big party and invite the world! What could possibly go wrong! Woooooo hoooooooo! Play.
Going up (a different day) top floor. What do you mean you don't agree with me! I'm right! Why don't you think like me? Keep up! How can you be so illogical? I'll f-ing shred you if you don't do what I want! Rage.
Going down, lower ground floor. Flat, listless, can't be bothered. Can still function but it's a drag. Cope
Going down, basement. I'm never getting out of bed again. I'm useless, worthless. Total idiot, how could I ever imagine I could do anything, nothing ever goes right because I'm wrong. I'm a burden to everyone. Hide.
Welcome to my bipolar world. It's always been my world, but it's only recently I've seen it for what it is. About 15 years ago I was diagnosed with clinical depression during one of my 'basement' times. I had a lot of lower ground floor times too, on and off, and I kept out of the basement (so I thought) with alcohol. Until that took me into the blackest ever basement with only one obvious way out. Having survived doing something very dangerous I realised I had to stop drinking or I really would die.
I never took much notice of the playful times or the anger, that was just me, I was fun sometimes, and sometimes I was a devastating bitch. Ha! Deal with it people!
Well, yes, but in time the elevator started going up and down too quickly and, as I became more aware and more knowledgeable about mental health I realised this wasn't good. Doctor. Diagnosis. Bipolar 2. Lithium.
So, I've started this thread in the hope that other bipolar folks will join me, to share experiences and strategies. In my 'beginners' understanding, we are different from other fellow travellers of the back dog. While we experience depression as many others on this site do, the hypomanic or manic ups and, for some the rapid cycling that can happen, are experiences unto themselves.
I want to learn more, and I want to share with others. I hope my fellow elevators will join me here.
BTW, it's a ground floor day in my head today! Yay!
Love
Kaz

With our professional development plan you have to have 3 goals and then provide 3 sets of evidence of achieving that goal. THEN you have to write an analysis of the data. It's all crap if you ask me. The principal rewrote my goals and then told me pretty much what evidence I will need. It just creates more work that you don't need. Quirky my principal likes you to agree with everything she says.
Had an ok day. It started with a 7.30 meeting.
I'm not a huge fan of pizza. What is gorgonzola? I've never heard of it. I like mushroom and mozzarella cheese too.
Airies did you end up going for a ride?
V am glad you have had a better day and had a good convo with the man.
Right now am just sitting in front of the telly. Not doing much. I try not to bring work home anymore.

Lisa Gorgonzola is wonderful.
I remember when teaching, there would meetings and we were asked our opinions which meant we were to agree to what the head teachers plans.
That’s why I liked being my own boss no meetings.

Depends on the Pizza., whether thick or thin. Love a wood fired pizza. The pizzas we had in Italy were so different to what we have here. We had Italian exchange students for a number g years and they were gobsmacked that we have pineapple on a pizza and most were pleasantly surprised.
Lisa , no I didn’t ride. It started to drizzle and that was enough. Tomorrow s another day

I don't like blue vein cheese.
I find meetings drag on. Just say what you need to say and move on. Being your own boss would be good. Noone to answer to. You get to set the rules. I'm not sure how I would go with running my own time I think I would finish early everyday lol

Apologies all for going awol...
spent the weekend in PAPU (psychiatric assessment and planning unit) and am now in a private facility as they are unsure on the bipolar diagnosis and want to monitor me for a while and reassess... I am feeling a little more stable (albeit quite medicated) and more hopeful that I can get the help I need...
Sounds like a it’s been a bit of a shitty week since I last touched base for a few of you.
I am sending much love and stuff to all...
Please all be kind to yourselves and do what you need to, to make sure you are safe and ok first, everyone else around you can wait (even your children and partners)... I’m just learning this and finally doing something for me to make me better so I can be happy for me first...
then I can give what I can spare to those around me and not drain myself.

Anna,
thanks so much for keeping in touch and for explaining what PUPA is.
I know if I get tired my mental and physical health will deteriorate.
Can you go for a walk or do creative things while there?
Take care
