Hi all. I just need to get this out somewhere. I am in a very dark place. I feel as though someone is sitting on my chest and have so much emotional pain yet feel numb at the same time. Im alone and lonely. I hate myself and who I am. I am so tired of fighting to get well and when I go to bed I pray to not wake up. I can’t keep going on like this. I need to get better

Thanks everyone for your support through this really difficult time.

I had an appointment with my case manager today and talking it out was good. It hasn’t put me in any better place but it’s just good to have support. She is also organising for me to see the psychiatrist for a med review but it will be a couple of weeks away.

I do have a hard copy of my safety plan in full view for when I need it.

I have crashed really hard today and it’s a struggle. I wish for it all to be over. It’s hard to see a positive end to this mess that is my life.

Admission was mention again today but I need to be available for my parents. They think my dad has prostrate cancer and he had biopsies done today. So we are waiting for the results which I hope is early next week. If it is cancer they need me to be available. Which is double Dutch to me ending it all.

My head is making no sense at all.

I have been for 2 walks today to try and get some fresh air and ease the pain.

Sorry it’s a negative update but it’s all I’ve got right now.

Hi T

If it is cancer he'll be undergoing ongoing treatment so yes your support is great but your mental health is also paramount in order to support him. I'm concerned you could be pushing back your needs.

What do you think?

TonyWK

Hi TK

Yes I do think I’m pushing back my needs. That’s what I’ve always done. I never put myself first even when I need to. I don’t feel like I can now either. I feel like it’s selfish to think of myself.

I just need to be strong enough to hold on throughout whatever his journey is. My support team will be there with me through it all. I just have to be open enough to learn in them. I really struggle with asking for help but I need to get over that.

I will wait and see what happens with dad then once things settle down I will try an focus on me.

Thanks

T

Hi Captain T,

Thanks for the update. I agree with Tony in that you need to prioritise your mental health in order to support your parents. It is good that you are learning to trust your support team. I am glad you had an appointment with your case manager and hope that a positive med change is on the horizon. Let us know when the results come in.

Hi Bob and TK

I hope all is well with you both.

Have you heard about the Peer Worker job Bob?

I had a meeting with my CM and discussed that I needed to focus on my MH to enable me to best support Mum and Dad after we get the results on Thursday. I have organised an appointment with her for Friday after the results come through.

She did discuss ways to interact with my narcissistic mother going forward. But I don’t think I have the strength to do it. I just can’t stand up to her.

The meeting has left me feeling very vulnerable and raw. It has put me on a rapid slippery slope down hill. I’m back to wanting to end things so I don’t have to face what’s coming up. I’m not sure I have the strength to deal with it at all.

Hi Captain T,

Thanks for the udpate. Yes I have heard back and I fortunately was successful in my application. I will be very happily starting this Thursday. Thank you for checking in with me. It means alot.

I'm glad you could touch base with your case manager. It is a shame that what you discussed has distressed you. It is indeed perhaps best to avoid topics for the meantime which might cause distress or make you uncomfortable. But I hope you are finding the sessions meaningful and genuine at least.

I know you mentioned you don't know if you have the strength but I believe you do. You have already demonstrated great strength just through our chats alone. I'm thinking of you during this tough time and I hope Thursday goes ok.

Hi Bob

Im so glad you got the job. Congratulations! Is it full time? I hope the first day went really well for you.

I hope you are well.

I’ve been doing really well since Monday. I actually enjoyed work for the first time in a while. I hope it lasts for a bit.

We got dads results and he has high grade prostate cancer. The 2 scans he has already had have shown it hasn’t spread but the specialist is surprised. So he has sent him for 2 more. He has an appointment with the specialist in 2 weeks so we will hopefully find out that it hasn’t spread. I’d it hasn’t he has a choice of having the prostate taken out and being cancer clear or having radiation treatment and hoping it fixes it. I want him just to get it out.

It’s a bit of a scary situation for us right now. But so far I am just taking it in my stride. Which I’m proud of myself for. Is just a sharing game right now.

Thanks for the support you are showing me. I really do appreciate it.

Hope you have a good day.

Hi T

When you project to yourself "why cant I be normal" it is hoping to be someone you are not.  That hope is unrealistic and will only serve you in a negative manner as your disappointment continues as you cannot achieve this.

A far better approach as I found through persistence is to identify that we with mental health issues (depending on the illness and severity) live our lives mental outside of the boundaries of "normal" and that with logic, planning, advice and medical assistance we can reach those boundaries and in some ways enter into the normal circle of health.

I'm 67yo now and have been enjoying many years behind me with this acceptance. Sure I still endure the swing of bipolar regardless of medication or the downs of depression and even had anxiety recently after its absence of 11 years. But I'm very positive when not in those cycles. Positive enough to encourage members like yourself that dont feel there is a life like what I've ended up with.

So, keep studying this forum, keep reading and asking. Lack of a passion can be an issue because a passion/hobby can distract us from over thinking/dwelling on the bad weather or problems, or just that darkness.

All of the above is the guide towards improvement but you also as an individual, have to seek out what works for you, an area no one can assist with unless its a psychiatrist. Improvement can come by changes in your life like environment, relationships, career, working hours, medication review, good sleep and so forth.

hello.

I I read your reply talking about your dad and cancer. It must be a challenging and uncertain time for your family. It's admirable that you're taking it in stride and staying strong. Remember to take care of yourself and seek support when needed. I'm here for you and listening if you want to talk

Hi Captain T,

Thank you so much! It is 4 days a week at the moment. Things are going good, the team is nice but there is a lot of training which has been intense haha.

Glad to hear that you're doing well. How did your appointment with your case manager go on Friday?

I'm sorry to hear about your dad and hope that the cancer hasn't spread. I hope you have been coping ok. It is huge news and understandable to experience grief after a big diagnosis. Like I linked before, cancer council has some great support and resources if you're interested.

No worries about the support. I honestly feel like we're supporting each other! It's been great getting to learn more about your journey.
