Hi, welcome

I cant express enough the importance of a correct diagnosis by a psychiatrist following a referral from a GP.

As an example in 2003 I was diagnosed with ADHD and for 6 years tried 12 different meds for ADHD each one tried for a few months then weaned off, try another etc. None worked and had bad side effects - wht? - incorrect diagnosis.

In 2009 I was correctly diagnosed with bipolar2, dysthymia and depression. After the second set of meds, bingo, best one found. Been much better ever since in fact it has changed my life.

By the way, well done in being proactive. Many dont have such insight.

All the best.

Hi enerfydriinks,

Welcome to the forums and thanks for being here.

You are right in that BPD needs to be diagnosed by a psychiatrist or a psychologist. A GP may diagnose BPD (or any mental illness) but they're often incorrect because they never get to get a full picture of you and what you're going through.

The K10 is only ever a guideline or a tool to help people with the diagnosis. People might fill out the K10 on one day and get the impression (or diagnosis) of depression, and the next day they won't have anything. So it's all relative.

Sorry that I couldn't be of more help here; can I ask what's holding you back from seeing a therapist?
