Dear Grandy

Someone very close to me had a hip replacement and it went like a dream. Surprisingly an epidural and sedation was used rather than a general anesthetic. No memory of the operation but a much faster recovery -in that particular case. I'm not suggesting it is the way anyone else should go.

I do think exercises over the preceding 6 moths -1 year made a difference, then again maybe it was just luck. Not driving for 6 weeks after was the worst bug-bear, they were going stir-crazy:)

I'm glad you enjoyed the paintings with the music, I think they match well. I often need visual clues when listening to music.

You are right, Sumo Cat does like being close, but his furry blanket and a warm fire are necessary cat-accessories too. A cat has standards to maintain you know.

Dear Paul~

Yes some relatives of the Croix family were married in St Mary's Hendon, though that was a very long time ago.

Were you passing though, or did you stay there for a while? Standing round in winter is not recommended!

All of London is cold in winter, the only good thing is hopping on a double-decker bus (warm on the top level) or going down in the depth's to an underground train, again quite warm. I think London Transport kept many from freezing solid:)

Hello Croix

Its a small world.....My dad was born in Hendon and before he passed in 2016 he always talked about riding his Norton motorbike around Hendon. He went to Oxford and did his degree in Civil Engineering.....came out here to Oz and was a part of the team that engineered the Snowy River Scheme.... Various projects in Ontario Canada and then the Westgate bridge in Vic and the Hydro Electrical Scheme just outside of Maydena in Tasmania..phew!

I havent been to Hendon....but have been moved around a lot as a kid..globally

This is a really gentle and friendly thread Croix....Thankyou 🙂

Dear Paul~

You must have gone to a lot of schools too. I think I ended up with around 8, mostly UK, with one in France and one in Australia.

It gives you -or me at least - a bit of a different perspective. Every time I wen to a new school I would see how seriously the 'house' system and school ethos was taken, however after the first few one became a little cynical.

By contrast good teaching always stood out, often here was just one master in each school who realy knew how to get the information across, with some it was a real pleasure to be in their class.

I remember one math master who threw blackboard dusters at inattentive students - not acceptable nowadays of course, however he had a genius for teaching math, even got me to like it -no mean feat.

Were there any that stood out for you?

Hello Croix

If memory serves I have also been to many schools....about 7...From kinder in Oz to Ontario CA and then Vancouver BC....then Tasmania...and then a few schools back in Oz. It does provide some perspective for sure yet I miss the friends I made at every school....I also miss the teachers in Canada teaching us to write cursive which wasnt tolerated here in Australia when we came back

ahhhh yes the dreaded blackboard duster being thrown at students heads if they weren't 'paying attention'

The private school I attended here in the 70's was a culture shock.....The 'masters' wearing long black robes that gently flowed with the wind when they walked...and a very tall senior 'master' (he was the school chaplain) that used to roll up the 'Age' and occasionally struck a students head from behind if they were inattentive.

I dont think we need binoculars to understand the psychological damage that can result not only to the form 1 students that was bashed many times but also to the other kids that were present in the class...(me)

Good point about mathematics Croix....I had a very uptight Irish 'master' that also used violence as a motivator....I have never understood simultaneous equations since!

I dont miss college....thats for sure!

Happy Friday Mr Croix and thanks again for the friendly Parler you have created

Paul

Hi Paul and Croix. isn't it funny how you unconsciously sort of build up a mental picture in your mind about how someone looks, their family, background etc...having only "met" them via the written word.

I would not have pictured you BlondGuy as being around all those schools in all those different places!! Canada, Tasmania, school masters in black floating robes...nuh...I had you as a knock about Aussie kid at a small regional school...then a long haired blonde surfie guy....but your Dad went to Oxford, born in Hendon...Hydro electric schemes, Snowy River etc.

but Croix..those schools were exactly where I can imagine you...as well as the little schoolboy eating doughnuts watching the swans on the pond in Paris was it?

Reason I am writing is...for some advice if I could?? Is this permissible on your Parler thread? Is this Forum etiquette or am I flaunting the rules? Quelle Horreur!

This new tournament I am in is enjoyable, of course...but I have noticed I am getting really really tired...I am sort of "noticing my age" in this way for the first time...and it scares me, really scares me.

I am worried I should perhaps give it up, perhaps I shouldn't have taken on another one in the first place? What if I let my team down? I know I am good but that means only "further to fall" if you get my drift....when others have very high expectations!

But Croix and Paul...I am just so tired...what if an anxiety attack takes over? I would never never recover from that and never set foot outside my home again with the humiliation. Why do the advancing years mean we get so tired??

Hello Croix

Thankyou for your gentle and friendly thread!

Hi Moon....thankyou for taking the time to read my post....The private school years were awful for me

Paul

Hi Guys....once again I find myself having to apologise...sorry again...for taking over someone else's thread by talking about myself...sorry sorry!! My excuse is I wanted to ask Croix' opinion about a specific thing that I knew he would have a comforting answer to...once again I have done the wrong thing ....

I recall not long after joining Forum, I answered someone's post and must have drifted off into outlining my own experiences with their topic...and they suggested strongly to "get off here and make my own thread"...so I do apologise if I have again, done the wrong thing...love Moon S x

Dear Moon

The first thing is you have my permission to talk about anything that strikes your fancy here on the Croix Parler thread, I started it as I wanted there to be a place people could contact me direct should they wish. Became it is in a general area one has to watch one does not distress others, but that is the only rule.

If you read back though the pages it covers everything from French existentialists thought to the experiences people have had and conditions such as CPTSD

Tu devrais rester calme et persévérer

Secondly

I'm not around much for the next couple of weeks, just things that have to be attended to, nothing untoward. So my responses may be slower than usual.

Thirdly

to give a sensible answer to your question:

Yes,we do get older and fatigue does become more pronounced, however two things-

first once can make allowances for this, so if you are going to have a heavy fortnight you do everything in your power to make each day as easy and non taxing as possible. This covers everything -from transport to cooking.

I am (considerably) older than I surmise you are and have to pace myself, but get EVERYTHING done that I wish, and do it well.

The other part is that experience counts for an awful lot, from not wasting time experimenting through to giving the most accomplished action possible.

Now, as for letting others down, I frankly can't see it. If a person was to drift away from what was expected others will adapt, howsoever I doubt you will, in fact I suspect you will be an example, an encouragement to those still learning or on the path to competence.

If anxiety takes over, which is unlikely, it lasts a little while, then you pick yourself up and face the world with a brave face to the admiration of all.

Remember, for those that do wish to follow in your doorsteps guess who said:

"A dreamer is one who can only find his way by moonlight"
