Before my health went south I was a builder in all aspects of home construction and renovation. If you don't have a handyman around I hope I can offer you some tips that may be of help. I have had many years of experience in home renovation and will do my best to help you out if you are stuck and need some advice
I hope my experience may be of help to the people on Beyond Blue and make their life a little bit better. Even if you need help with the most basic painting job or putting up a shelf I can help there too with some tips
I will do my best to get back to anyone that has a question when I can as this is social yet important thread

Hello RX, a shorter spring will only make it bang louder and it also depends on where you attach the spring to the door, so you might have to experiment with it.
Best wishes.

Ah so a shorter one will be worse yeah been wondering about that.
The springs in the middle atm, there was a good solid piece of frame in the door at the middle.

Hi Pawprints.
Yeah l've used them on other things might have to buy some and try it on this then.
Funny , it's been luzury since l made the little clip to prop it open . From dozens of bangs a day down to none . No flies atm .

Hello RX and thanks Paw Prints for contributing and yes the foam strips are available.
If the spring is bound up tightly then the door is going to close much quicker and well done for making the clip, although in summertime you might have to revise the situation, especially if you don't want flies, but what you can buy is an automatic fly sprayer attached to a wall or something that sprays fly killer every few moments, then the flies won't come into the rest of the house.
Best wishes.

Hi Everyone, just installed an app on my mobile that tells me what my electricity cost is per hour, at the moment it tells me that my split system is costing me $0.31 cents per hour to heat my 2 bedroom unit, it's from Vic Energy Savers and it's free.
Best wishes.

Hello RX, I got a 5kw in the loungeroom that will heat the whole 2 bedroom unit with all the doors open, it's different to how I have heated the unit the past few years.
You might have said RX, but what type of heating do you have.
Take care.
Geoff.

Gday Geoff.
Yeah l suppose 5k would that's pretty big for a unit l'd imagine, couldn't believe the cost though man that's the cheapest l've heard.
l've still got the wood heater of course but l'm having a break from fires this yr sick of getting wood hassles. So l did have the 2000w panel heater as back up but mine's not that economical to run so in the end l bought a little bar heater instead. They're normally expensive to run but this one has 3 settings and the lowest is only 400w, so a lot lower than the panel heater . And if l'm just in and out , this one left on low at least just keeps the air dry and the chill out. lf l'm inside or watching movies can throw it onto 2 which is still only 800w or onto high which is only 1200w and be really cosy.
Sooo, trying that out this yr.
All the best . rx

Hello RX, have you seen those bar heaters advertised on the telly, they compare them to an outside bottle heater and people believe they are so much better, heat instantly and so much cheaper.
They look like the old bar heaters we used to have in the bathroom, but the one I have mentioned are also waterproof.
I don't actually know as I don't have one but they are not that expensive.
Best wishes.
Geoff.
