Hi, I am a 44 year old single mum, and full time Police Officer. I have recently been diagnosed with ADHD and anxiety. I have no problems speaking to people, and do well in large groups but this is not by problem. I simply can't stop my mind from racing. I am on an antidepressant for the anxiety but i don't feel any different.

The biggest thing that bothers me is that i can never, EVER feel relaxed. Even after a massage, bath, quiet time, meditation or even a holiday. I literally can never remember ever feeling truly relaxed. I sleep ok, but during the day i just stress internally. It is affecting my job and my ability to form relationships.

I just want to be able to calm my mind enough to enjoy life. Does anyone else feel this way? Its driving me crazy...

Hi tatemymate,

I have no doubt that many of us on this site relate to what you are saying. My first thought was that if your AD is not doing anything you need to get back to your doc and let them know. Have you been on them long? They can take a while to have a full effect. With many people it can take a few tries to find what AD works the best.

Meditation has worked well for me, not knowing how much you have done I can tell you that I went through a phase of meditating for hours every day for months and now only a few times per week. It has helped me greatly, breathing exercises also helps me a lot to reduce anxiety.

I think you can believe that you will find a solution to this if you stay on your journey, don't stop!

Talk any time. Jack
