I am currently studying clinical sciences majoring in Psychology when I have just found out that the major of Psychology has been revoked leaving me high and dry and needing to change majors and even maybe courses I am having the usual panic, heart palpitations, lack of sleep and just worry. So I am just attempting to make a clear pathway on what to do, Just have no idea where to start. Suggestions would be appreciated

dear Wundt, that's just what you didn't want to happen.

Was it done because of the number of students, and have they suggested or advised you that you could go to another campus, but then there would be problems with your other subjects and then transport etc.

It's a hell of an inconvenience.

Where are you doing this course, or rather which state and campus. Geoff.

Hi Wundt,

I did consider studying psychology at one point. If you are studying to become a clinician than your major study would be prescribed by the Australian Psychological Society and therefore should be possible to transfer credit. The other thing you could consider is seeing if your current university will consider crediting some units from another institution. This would allow you to finish your major online. You will need to find an institution that can offer you the clinical training. If you contact the APS you should be able to get some advice. Also the institution you are studying with at the moment should not be able to leave you high and dry especially if you had already recorded your choice of major.

Hope you find a way to finish your study.

Grateful.

Hey mate,

currently I too am studying a psychology major with just last year the major being chopped out from my degree. However I've been able to stick with it fortunately. One thing about university is that it is always chopping and changing, and so the best thing to do is to seek information from the people that actually run the joint. Organise to see someone who specialises in subjects and degrees within your faculty face to face and discuss the changes that have occurred and what options are available to you. From this interview at least you'll have some insight to what has happened. In some cases, universities actually allow you to keep your major and continue with your degree, when majors throughout the degree or faculty change. If you are not able to keep your major with your degree then you need to consider other options. Research other degrees or pathways that allow for your major. If worst comes to worst you may need to consider transferring universities with credit. However what you need to do is try not think about negative or radical outcomes. Start with getting all the information you need and take tiny steps in organising what path you are going to choose to make sure you are going to get where you need to go. Believe it or not you are much more valued as a student then you think and your university undoubtedly will help you in any ways it can to ensure you achieve you goals in studying.

Information, understanding and university assisstance is what you need to deal with this setback. With little steps and planning you can get past this and back onto worrying about more important things like assignment due dates 🙂
