Sleep patterns and nightmares

I keep sleeping from 12-15 hours every night (waking up every 1-2 hours) and having multiple nightmares throughout the night. Also whenever I wake up I hallucinate (this isn't hypnagogic hallucinations, I hallucinate during the daytime too (i've been diagnosed with schizophrenia)). This is making me dread going to sleep every night. I really don't know what to do. I used to never be able to sleep at night and sleep all through the day, and my medication even on a high dose only made me tired for like an hour and then id be wide awake again, but i got put onto an extended release version too and so now i can sleep through the night so thats an improvement, but yeah.. I'm just really frustrated.
So if anyone has any suggestions on how to improve any of this id be very grateful

Hey Mark,
Thanks for the concern, i'll really let them know how much it is affecting me and asking for some kind of a solution rather than just telling them about it happening and I don't want to change doctors cause I really like them

Hi gen the friend,
Glad to read MarkJT's suggestion of mindfulness may have helped with the no nightmares, keep trying it and hopefully the results are the same.
It's great that you have a doctor you get on with, that is paramount to recovery but yes really bring up the fact you want a solution rather than just venting and telling them.
Keep us posted with how you are going.
My best,
Jay

Gen, awesome that you like your treaters enough that you want to stay with them. Makes it much easier i reckon.
So make sure though that you get the answers you need. Not meaning this to sound rude or nasty but you are not going there to be their friends, you are going to seek advice on the sleep issue.
You deserve the best treatment you can get.
Keep up with the mindfulness 👌
Mark.

Hey Mark,
I went to see my doctor today and I expressed all my concerns and it went well. I'm going to see my psychiatrist soon and we may adjust my medication.
Thanks so much :),

What a great outcome.
Good luck with the psych and hopefully get this sorted out.
