Need advice!!

Hi...I'm new here....

I feel like I may have depression, although I have never been clinically diagnosed, so I'm not sure. I want to ask my parents about seeing a psychologist, but my parents are the type that ask heaps of questions, and I don't really want to tell them until I'm sure.

Does anyone have any advice? Kinda a sticky situation....

Thanks 🙂

if you dont mind my asking how old are you cause the clinic i go to said that if your 16 or over you dont need a parent with you to see them just a dr referral

I'm under 16

is there someone who can help you talk to your parents

No-one that I can think of...

I had an idea just to ay to them, 'please don't ask any questions, but I would like to see a psychologist.' or smth like that

Hi dark_unicorn,

Firstly, I want to say that I think you're very brave for taking steps to see a psychologist, and moreover, for taking care of your mental health. You're awesome for doing that!

Sometimes it's hard to open up to our parents so I can empathise with you there.

Can I make a suggestion? Would it be helpful to write them a letter or email. You could explain that you would like to see a psychologist but you aren't ready to open up to them? Or something like that?

If worded well, it could potentially help make things easier for you (& your parents).

Let us know how things go.

Thank you for the suggestion Dottie, I will try that when I have some free time 🙂

Hi dark_unicorn,

No worries at all. It's nice to hear from you again. Let us know how things go or swing by and post if you want to get anything of your chest. We've got your back 😊
