Looking for a support/accountability partner

Hey so I'm a 22 year old guy living in Sydney whose been working through mental health stuff (depression, anxiety, potential ADHD) for the past year. I've recently wanted to start working on rebuilding my life by working on academic, fitness and general health goals. While I think there's a lot of merit in getting support through online spaces I think in person support will always be the gold standard. So I've been looking for a support/accountability partner who also lives in Sydney where we can support each other with mental health, chatting about life stuff, holding each other accountable, gyming together etc. If anyone is also interested in finding a support partner and lives in Sydney feel free to reach out!

Dear Taiji~

Welcome here to the support forum. In one way you are right, having one or more people in real life to give you support - and hopefully for you to support them - can be a useful way of going about things, and many benefit from this.

Unfortunatly here in this forum anonymity is one of the most prized and rigorously guarded attributes. A lot of people come here just because of this. As nobody knows them they can loosen up and say more than they would otherwise.

You can see where I'm going, there is no possibility of anyone physically meeting you as a result of being on the Forum, in fact it is banned. By all means establish supportive friendships here, however that is as far as it can go.

For contact in person I'd suggest asking your doctor if htere is a support group near you that you can join. Alternatively the Black Dog Institute has a page of support groups throughout the nation.

Hey Croix,

That's understandable, I can see how anonymity can help people feel more comfortable and allow them to open up about their situation more easily. Cheers for clarifying things.

Dear Taiji~

I'm sure you will find a support group if you keep looking, you might also consider such organizations as The Mens Table which has the advantage if there is not one near you it might be possible to start one with their help

If you would like ot let us know how you get on others in the same situation may be very interested
