and I am currently 14. I was told I had serve depression just after I had
turned 13. I totally understand what you mean! It can be very hard and confronting
to tell anyone about your feelings and what’s going on for you. It was the best
thing I have ever done, if I hadn’t told anyone about my feelings I don’t know
if I would still be here to this day. Without talking to someone any about how
you are feeling won’t help your situation. I never wanted to say that I wasn’t okay
or I needed some help. If I can give you any message by writing this, it would
be that to commutate with anyone will be the best thing to help. This sounds a
little dumb but write down your feelings. It will be a release of worry for
you. Everything can get tough sometimes but remember that you are worthy to
life and that someone in the world does need you around 🙂

Hi Keahana and a warm welcome to these forums.
Well done for reaching out and taking this courageous step to share your feelings. Living with depression is not easy, nor is opening up about it. Only few people really know what it is all about. Because of ignorance, they often end up saying/doing unhelpful things. Although it is an illness (like diabetes for example) many see it as caused by a flawed personality...No wonder we are reluctant to speak out.
Kudos to you for getting help. With the right assistance and support, the condition is manageable. You don't have to go it alone. It is not an easy road but well worth taking in the long run. It does get better.
If you find opening up face to face to your loved ones too difficult, why not hand out some leaflets explaining what depression is and how those affected can be supported ? If you scroll down to the bottom of this page, you will find useful resources you can click on, or check what is available at "Media" at the top of the page.
You can also write letters. Writing helps clarify thoughts and feelings to yourself. I can be done at leisure, edited until you are satisfied. It does away with blurting out in panic and not coming across well at all. Those letters can also be read and re-read, time can be taken to think things through.
Meanwhile, navigating these forums will show that here at BB you will be understood. There are lots of us in similar situations. Judgment doesn't come into it. It is a safe place to unload the overload and you are always in control of how much or how little you choose to say.
Great to have you on board.
