Feeling like I have no future

I’m in Year 12 at the moment and I feel like there’s nothing left that’s worth it. I have no friends, and that’s not an exaggeration. I study by myself everyday at lunch and as a really sociable person it’s really tough. My grades have been spiralling since the start of the year and I honestly don’t care. Because I don’t see a future for myself. I used to be so excited to start uni because it seemed like this bright light where I’d have the perfect life, with an amazing social life. But now, all I can think about is living how I am now for the rest of my life and it’s miserable. I don’t know whether I’m depressed, or just sad, but I can’t shake the feelings of worthlessness and loneliness. I dread going to school everyday and I hate being home as well. It feels like I have no happy place. Has anybody been through something similarly and is now in sunny days? Any advice to get over this?

hello and welcome

things sound pretty rough for you, has something happened to make you feel life is worthless? did you want to talk about what happened with your friendships?

With making friends are you able to join a study group that way you can study and meet new people, or join in with an interest group either at school or outside school?

do you think you could make your room your happy place? decorate it in a way you like then itll be your room the way you want it....

Hey there,

Thank you for posting, and welcome to the forums.

Year 12 is a really rough time, and it's only made even harder when you don't have a social network to support you. It can be hard to think about life out of high school, especially when you're feeling down. Year 12 can feel like you're just going through the motions, but that's okay.

If you are feeling depressed or sad, there are a few things that you can try to incorporate into your daily routine to try to improve your mood:

  • Self-care: I'm sure you've heard of "treat yoself!"... it's a real thing. Self-care is super important, especially since you're in year 12 and there is a massive amount of work and pressure. Try to take some time out for yourself, make sure you're eating a balanced diet, try to get a bit of exercise, and ensure you're getting enough sleep.
  • Relaxation: Having time to relax, and not think about study is important. Reading a book, listening to music, or practicing meditation/mindfullness are just a few of the ways you can relax.

If it's something that's more persistent, and doing these things isn't really helping you, it's important that you speak to someone about it. You might be able to have a chat to your school counsellor, or even see a GP, in order to get more professional help.

Hope this helps.
