Oh you poor darlin'. Happy birthday Bec - I'm really sorry you had to spend it alone. I hope you're feeling better after reading all the lovely posts from the other members.
I turned 45 last Monday and spent it on my own too - I know just how you feel. As Geoff said, face to face support and loads of presents would definately be in order for you. No one deserves to be so alone, especially on their birthday.
I've got some news that might cheer you up. I checked out the 'Meet Up' website and there's a new Melbourne depression & anxiety group. I don't know if you're in Melbourne ( I really hope you are) but I've emailed the person who created this new meet up group and I'm hoping to hear back from her soon.
I have to wait for my membership to be approved so I won't be able to attend their first meeting this Saturday, but I will definately go to the next one. I'm not sure if this part of my post will be approved by the moderators, but I hope it will.
Since this site can't facilitate face to face meetings (& I understand why of course) can I suggest that you check out the 'Meet Up' website? Especially the new group "Melbourne depression & anxiety group" There are absolutely loads of different groups all over Australia. Ther's bound to be a group just right for you.
Keep 'breathing' Bec and know that we are all thinking of you.
