Hi nugentbc,
Sorry to hear of your father's diagnosis. I can understand that this would play havoc on your emotions. Hearing this kind of news can feel a little like grief. You've experienced sadness and now you're feeling numb. This numbness can be a result of the emotions you feel being to powerful for you to manage, so the part of the brain responsible for emotions shuts down.
Have you been able to chat with your dad about this diagnosis? How is he taking the news? As difficult as it can be, you need to be there for him now. Having said this it's also a really good idea for you to get some support for you as well. Perhaps attending an oncology appointment with him, seeing your GP, or chatting with a counsellor.
You are definitely not a Psycho for feeling numb, It happens to all of us. Hopefully talking about it will help.
