Stuck in mud

Hello - I’m a newbie on this forum. I’m a senior, with no family and little outside support. I’ve been struggling with depression and anxiety for quite a while now. I have really bad days but do have some reasonably good days too so I’m all over the place. I’m recognising in myself huge lacks in motivation, self-discipline and with waaay too much procrastination about doing what I know will help me so I can move on. I’ve felt so bad for so long I don’t know how to be any other way. I almost have this feeling of being uncomfortable to be happy again - I’m stuck in a BIG rut. Can someone please help?

i do watch tv, play internet games sometimes, do breathing exercises etc.

I do have to go out to buy food obviously but a short trip out and I’m exhausted, so come home and sit too tired for anything often. Takes me a while to get some energy back

where I live it’s so quiet most of the time which is good because I don’t like noise. I don’t listen to radio much because a lot of stuff is negative, mindless, music that grates on my nerves. But the quiet here makes it easy to feel like sleeping and I can do that too easily.

i go back to my doctor soon.

youre right about lack of support groups in Australia fistfulofglitter - especially when it comes to families and neighbours. Australian families are so fractured these days, don’t keep in touch with each other, seems to be much trouble for most. Neighbours don’t want to get involved. So much stigma about mental health. It’s all very sad

I hope you are doing fairly ok today.

Where I live is also quiet, in fact I can go weeks without even seeing a person or even for a car to go down street.. I live on the last street of a tiny village..200 residents...No one comes up my street unless they live here, and the people here just don't go out, it's 70 klm round trip to just get milk, to expensive in fuel...

I don't do tv very much, only if a game show or fantasy movie comes on...Music hmm I have no reception for the radio..bad eh. The cities have everything the country has zero..

I find the quiet stirs up my C-PTSD a lot so I will usually have a relaxiation cd playing...

Todays music is nothing like the music I grew up..so I'm not missing anything there...

Portia, I hope your week end is good...In saying that my days and nights just run one into the other week end has no significance any more, days are monotonous boring, trying to find something to do daily to keep our minds busy is a must to keep negativity away..

Hi everyone i can relate to these posts stuck frozen is def the way i feel.. its the mornings that are the hardest if i get up and do anything walk sweep clean .. it tends to distract me a lil still have these pang feelings do you get them? I am in my late 50’s and have been a long time suffer just like my parents were.. i do have meds but often wonder if they help or maybe i wld be worse ... i guess its about acceptance and moving but i am stuck a lil now my parents have left this world .. love to chat to anyone that wld like 2 ..

Twinny, I really would like to talk to you and try to help you but unfortunately you have landed onto Portia support thread. That's not a problem, you can continue to talk here or on any thread you like at anytime, but I want you to get the support you deserve, and the best way you can do that is by opening up your own introduction thread. To do so, select the tab which says "All Posts". Then select the first forum on the list "Welcome and Orientation". Then on the top right side you will see a tab called "New Thread". Give your thread a title, then your on your way..I would really love to talk to you.. If you want just pop back in here and let me know the name of your thread.

I’m doing ok, sort of. Went out today, no big deal but home again completely drained.

I can’t imagine living in such a small village. Do you have to live there ?

Yeah I know what you mean about weekends have no meaning now they must have ended when Sunday trading started long ago.

Im stuck here now Portia, im stuck here the houses here are so cheap compared to the city or suburbs..If I sell this I can buy or rent in the city.
