New here, hello!

Hi everyone, I've posted a couple of times but I thought I'd introduce myself officially! I'm 41 and have suffered from anxiety since I was a child but most extremely since my teens. I didn't realize what it was until around 8 years ago and didn't really get in control of it until after four years of medication, CBT and some EMDR.

I had around a year with ZERO anxiety, then some very stressful life experiences brought it back a little - nowhere near as bad as it was before but it still comes and goes. Most recently I've had some extremely stressful events happen (outside of my control) and my anxiety has taken another step for the worse - and also I've started to get depressed every now and then which is (I think) a fairly new thing for me - I've learnt a lot about my anxiety and how to deal with it but I don't really know how to deal with the depression... Going back to the psychologist next month.

I don't really have anyone in real life to talk about these things so it's great to find this supportive community!

Thanks, J.

Hey J

When you mentioned earlier on that you were looking after your grandchild I just stopped in my tracks.....mainly through being envious of your super high energy levels and how crap I would be at doing the same with my daughter's 12 month old.

I envy your spirit and your family values. I have similar values but I am 57...am still pretty fit but I just dont know how you do it!

I hear what you just said about your health taking a back seat during this period. I dont blame you for feeling like the way you are. I know you are a lot younger than I am but I really respect what you stand for as a super hero dad to your daughter and her son.

We dont need binoculars to see who the Champion is around here J....seriously...well done to you 🙂

I hope you can stick your head in and see your GP....especially right now...even weekly will be a huge benefit so you can have a good vent. (I still see my doc every 4 weeks for a 'tune up')

Thankyou heaps too for your great post on the Facebook thread I put up a couple of weeks ago

My kindest for you and your family J

Paul

Thanks so much Paul for the reply and the kind words!

I don't think we had any choice in taking on the grandson! But I'm glad we could do it. And yes it's a lot harder picking him up and carrying him up and down stairs than it was 20 years ago!

And yes I think that's a good idea to check in with the GP, I'll do that.

Thanks again, J.

Hey J, I hope your day was good to you

Just a message of thanks for you.

I have made a more concerted effort to contact my daughter today despite her anger at the world. It felt good

Thanks to you

My Best

Paul

Thank you Paul!

Yes my anxiety seems to be getting a little less each day (getting closer to a solution to replacing the old car, talking though it here etc. getting back into the habit of meditation etc.)

I'm glad you were able to contact your daughter - my daughter and I are still in a sort of limbo - it's difficult because I'm looking after her son but she's not really talking to me.. Her social worker says she's doing well though so I hope we'll get closer again..

Thanks again, J.

No worries J. Its great to have you on the forums

That would have been a major pain to have a car kick the bucket...especially when doing it tough.

Your daughter having a social worker is a huge bonus J.

Your daughter will get closer to you again. Her plate is overfull at the moment....thus like my daughter too is a temporary yet painful phase to go through as a parent for sure

I hope your day is good to you and your family J

My Best. Paul
