Public Inpatient Treatment?

HenryG

Hi,

I experience quite severe depression and feel that I could really benefit from an inpatient treatment program. I am aware there are quite a few private facilities offering this but they don't often list the expenses involved. Does anyone know if there are any public inpatient programs and how to get in to one?

Hi HenryG

Welcome to the forums and thankyou for posting too

I do feel your pain where depression is concerned after having it for 20 years..If I may ask you Henry...do you have a regular GP that you can rely on? I am sorry if my immediate answer doesnt provide much assistance to you, but depending on what state you live in the answer can vary....

How long have you had depression for if its okay to ask of course......There are many super kind people on the forums that can be here for you as many of us have depression....chronic or otherwise.

If you are stuck right now, Beyond Blue have really kind people on their 24/7 support line that can help too....1300 22 4636.

you are not alone HenryG.....if I may ask you about how you are feeling? (silly question but had to ask if thats ok)

My kindest thoughts for you Henry

I'm okay right now. I just feel lately that I have been having more bad days than good.. There has been more than one occasion where I have actually considered taking myself to the emergency department of hospital with suicidal thoughts. I'm just worried that I will end up doing something harmful to myself if I don't get help soon.

I have a fantastic GP who has really helped me the last few months after I finally reached out after having depression on and off for around 5 years. The problem is, my GP is away on holidays and I feel lost without the support.

I am in Melbourne, VIC

Hi Henry. Thanks for posting back. I am glad you are a bit better. Your GP being on leave doesnt help. Can I ask you if you have a couple of people for support that you can confide in?

Depression is a dreadful illness which as you know gives these bad lows. I have been on AD's since the 90's which helped me out big time. They were never a total 'fix' but provided me with a platform on which I could heal. I am in Melbourne too and have had the thought of visiting an ED ward in the past. When does your GP get back from holidays?

Do you have a quiet weekend coming up?

you are not alone here henry

My kind thoughts for you. Paul
