How to renew expired mental health plan?

Hi All,

My GP in a medical centre wrote the plan for me two years ago and I had just one session with the counselor in that centre and I didn't really connect with him so didn't continue to visit.

I finally found a good psychologist and I visited her but my plan has expired. How can I renew it? The GP who wrote the plan for me does not work in that medical centre anymore.

Youre just going to need to go and get a new one from a different gp. They dont make you get too in depth with whats going on so it shouldnt trigger too much for you but if you feel it will, mention that to the gp before you start. They are there to help you...any gp will do a mental health plan, it doesnt have to be your regular one.

Hello Nv1.

Welcome to the forums ☺️

You don’t need to see the same GP that wrote your first plan. You can go to any GP you like, but yes, you need a new plan each year. And after 6 sessions you will need it renewed again to be given a further 4 sessions for the year.

Take care

Hello NV, what Alexlisa has said is correct, and can I implore you to have it renewed, especially if you have found a psychologist you may have connected with.

Please let us know.

Best wishes.

Geoff.
