Eating Disorder/Mental Health Plan Medicare

Hi!

I'm currently under Eating Disorder Treatment Plan, regarding that plan for Medicare rebate purpose. So just can I ask for the following questions,

1) After 10 sessions, I know I need a review from my GP and then can be eligible for the next 10 sessions. So can I ask what's the review mean? Another new Eating Disorder Treatment Plan? That document had many pages? Or just a new referral letter with something like, "I refer this patient for the next 10 sessions"?

2) My psychologist going to change the clinic. My original EDP and referral letter were referred to XXX clinic not my psychologist. Do I need to go to my GP to change both of them, or just need a referral letter only (some words on it like for the remaining X sessions, referred to [name]) would be fine?

Though I'm with ETP, but I think these 2 questions should be the same as the normal mental health plan.

Thank you very much for help!

Hey Suncy,

Thank you so much for posting here, welcome to our forums. I'm sorry to hear that you've been going through a rough time, but it's good that you're seeking professional assistance.

I'll try and answer your questions to the best of my knowledge, but I'll let others chime in if anyone else is better informed:

  1. The review would likely be to check how you're going with your current plan and if your it needs any changes/updating. The original 10 pages would be just some background info to give to your psychologist about what's been going on for you, so your GP and psychologist would likely just be expanding these notes in the review to help optimise the care that you're receiving.
  2. I'm not quite sure what you mean - is your psychologist changing to a different clinic, or have they referred you to somebody else at a different clinic? Either way, in my experience, generally a changing of information would warrant a new referral, so this may be something to contact reception at your GP's clinic about, or even your psychologist's clinic to ask what exactly they may need from you.

I hope this helps! And we're all wishing you the best of luck on your healing journey.

Take care, SB

Thank you.

My psychologist will go to another clinic. But the problem is, I know I need a new referral. However for that eating disorder plan itself, since it was originally issued to her previous clinic, do I need to re-do that plan again or not?

Thank you so much again

Kind Regards,

Hey Suncy,

I think I can understand what your question is, and please correct me if I'm wrong.

The plan itself may not change too much - perhaps an update about why a change in addressee has occurred - unless your situation has changed since the referral/plan was last written. Either way, updates will be made to the original plan. From my understanding, this will likely be achieved through another consult with your GP, which could be in-person or over the phone. Having said that, it would be good to still confirm this with the reception staff at your GP clinic.

Hope this helps!

Yea thanks for that. I've asked my GP clinic to help me, looks like a new referral should be okay. Thank you again
