I noticed six more new people online who are considering self harm and/or are very depressed.
Each one I read through their stories. And with each story I read, I feel more and more sad that these people are finding life so tuff and having seemingly no-one to speak with.
I click on the reply button, but cannot seem to get past the stock-standard: "welcome to BB and thanks for posting." I am staring at a blank screen with no useful thoughts or words coming to mind, it is as if my brain is empty. Maybe it is not knowing if the others I tried to help were actually helped. I find that I am feeling overwhelmed with self doubt as to whether there is any help in what I write.
Perhaps there is just too much pain online today, this week, this season. I don't know. I just know that my head hurts, my heart feels deadened by their cries for help, and I sit here unable to help. This feeling of helplessness reminds me of the darkness of despair; helplessness frightens me; being helpless is akin to being worthless.
How am I to guide anyone to the light, if I myself have lost sight of the light?
Misplaced.

Dear Subdued,
Thank you so very much for your powerful and heartfelt post. There are times when we do not have the words or the thoughts to share with people. There are times when we don't know how to help ourselves let alone anyone else.
Your deep feelings for others comes through loud and clear. You may not have the words to write, but you do have a soul full of caring.
Would it help you to light a candle if you have one, and you could imagine that light going out to everyone who is hurting. Or you could open a window and look out, sending wishes of peace to all.
You may also need to find a way to let go of the burden of other people's pain. Listen to some music, go for a walk, phone a friend, read a book, find ways to comfort yourself.
There are many people who find this time of year to be a struggle. Please think that it is wonderful we all have this site to come to when we feel like there is no where else to go.
Maybe it is time today dear Subdued to stick to the Social Zone and join in with a few cheerful chats or to turn off the screen and do some self care.
Before you close the screen, you might like to Google Cats and Christmas Trees. There are some very funny clips to watch! I'm not making light of your feelings no anyone else's pain. I understand the pain. Sometimes we need to look after ourselves as well.
Cyber hugs to you if you need them, cheers form Dools xxx

Me again Subdued,
Just thinking about that light you mentioned.
Wouldn't it be great if we could each light a candle, hold it up and show each other how much light there can be in this world of ours!

Hi Subdued - this is not unusual mate. We all go through this from time to time, and we come good again. The fact that you care so deeply and connect with other people's suffering is what makes you a good champ. But sometimes we have to walk away for a while or we go under.
Take a look at the champs forum ...

Hello Subdued
Your can never be misplaced when you demonstrate such empathy and care for other people. Some days the light does not shine and we need to focus on a different light. As Kaz says, look at the champs forum.

Hi SB,
We all need a lift and a little encouragement at times. The great thing is that we can get it here by the truck load!
Cheers to you.
