Hi I'm new to all of this since I just made an account so I'm not sure if I'm doing this right lol. But me and my friend are in year 7 and since high school is pretty different from primary school we both started having similar meltdowns/breakdowns and we would feel emotionally numb and even had thoughts of hurting ourselves at times. I talked to my school counsellor about this and I'm doing a quite better. My friend is also a bit better but she's still having such meltdowns and breakdowns. She absolutely hates the idea of opening up to an adult or anybody else about this and wanted me to indirectly ask for any advice on BeyondBlue. She said she was feeling emotionally numb and sometimes cries for no reason. She feels more emotional over things and sometimes just doesn't care about anything at all. I would be so glad if anyone has any advice for my friend!

Welcome to the Beyond Blue community! Thank you for writing on here tonight and for seeking support for your friend. It’s really great to you have spoken to a counsellor and that it has helped you a lot.
If you or your friend ever feel like things are getting overwhelming or you may act upon some of these thoughts that you have been having, we encourage you to reach out for support. Even just to talk to someone about how you’ve been feeling. Our friends at kids helpline are a great option for support for young persons. You can contact them here at 1800 55 1800 or on their webchat here https://kidshelpline.com.au/get-help/webchat-counselling - Both services are 24/7.
Otherwise our Beyond Blue Support Service are available 24/7 by phone on 1300 22 4636 or on Webchat 1pm-12am AEST on our website: www.beyondblue.org.au/getsupport .
Both the webchat options for kids helpline and our support service, may be a great option for you friend. It is a low impact and semi-anonymous way of speaking to a counsellor and getting some support.
We appreciate you helping your friend and we hope you keep us updated as to how you are doing in the near future.

Hello GrayDee, it's really good of you to do this for your friend because not knowing what to do is worse than actually knowing but can't physically do it, but the only way we can learn is by talking to other people who have also been in your situation.
On this site, the majority of us have suffered from many different illnesses and being able to discuss our problems with them has certainly helped so many of us, and it's anonymous, nobody knows who the other person is, so please try and encourage her to open up, it's just like type an essay but this is much more important.
If not we'd still love to hear back from you, and if I can say that when somebody begins to cry for no apparent reason then something is causing this to happen, and it could be a range of issues that we'd like to talk about.
We don't ever criticise anybody because we have been in similar situations and know what it's like to be treated that way, so it doesn't happen, and along with crying, which I have done myself many times, losing interest in your favourite hobbies or your daily activities means there is a problem.
Please come back and tell us a little more.
Best wishes.
Geoff.
