I have a 12 yr old son who last year was diagnosed with depression, anxiety and OCD. He’s seeing a psychologist who says she doesn’t know what to do with him because CBT hadn’t worked and everything else she’s tried doesn’t work. He’s not receptive to any of it. He’s seeing a paediatrician who just seems to say , go on this tablet, that doesn’t work try this one, then up that one and it’ll all take over 6 weeks with every change so just stick with it. He is worse than ever. He feels like he’s drowning and I can’t do anything to help him except tell him that it will get better, but I don’t see how. I don’t know what to do.

welcome to the forum.

I am sorry you are having a problem getting help for your son. CBT does not work for everyone .

Is there as school counsellor or a teacher who understands your son.

Have you tried headspace .

Headspace. For ages 12-25. They have clinics that are free as well as free online support. While their services are for those aged 12-25, friends and family can also jump in and get some help - perfect for parents.

headspace.org.au/eheadspace/

So you could contact them and ask for support.

Thankyou so much for your response, I’ll try headspace. 🙏

Hi Macaz and I also welcome you to the forums .I know what is like to have children with depression, anxiety and ocd.My daughter has this ad well as autism and selective mutism and my son does have anxiety and ADHD and autism.Yes find it a very difficult thing with health professionals in how they treat them They don't seem to be sure and their treatment is working You always have the option of changing health professionals .I am not sure if you have tried a few different ones.Just keep at it and even the school brings in support for my kids.I am not sure support at school for your son.
Take care,

Hi Macaz,

I am really sorry to hear about what you have been experiencing. It sounds like you have been doing everything for your son to support him - he is very lucky to have you in his corner. I cannot imagine how difficult it must be to watch your son go through what he is experiencing. If you feel open to it, I would really encourage you to either consult your own GP and/or get a referral to a different paediatrician/psychologist to get a second opinion. Do you think he would be open to seeing a different psychologist? Do you know if he feels able to be open and honest with his current psychologist? Is there anything that has helped him in the past? Does he have any other support people that he feels able to be open with?

Please do not hesitate to reach out on these forums, we are here to listen. Take care.
