How to address self harm

Rupes79

Hi Everyone,

I’ve had issues in the past and more recently with self harm. I want to talk to someone about it but I don’t know who to address it with. I’m not really seeing my psychologist anymore and would have been reluctant to raise with her anyway.

My GP is the obvious choice but I don’t want to lose his confidence and trust, especially given he’s the one whose been prescribing the medication.

I’m not one for group therapy but wondering if there are any support groups or obvious people I could raise this with for some support.

Thanks a lot.

Hi, welcome

We are peer advisers here, people like yourself that have lots of life and mental health issues and experience. We are restricted as to what advice we can give, in your case you certainly need qualified guidance to assess your needs for treatment.

However, we can tell you things that have happened to ourselves and forward that on.  In my case , yes, I've self harmed. IMO its a case of repairing low confidence, accepting that you are not to blame and sitting down and planning your future to achieve where you'd like to be in 1,2,5,10 years time. Having goals helps us to see a future and to focus on that.

Also changes to your life like work, career, do part time work instead of full time, removing toxic people in your life and financial goals. There could be many more changes that you need to do to achieve a different environment. If you want to discuss your life in more detail so we can offer ideas please do so. It's anonymous so its safe.

In the meantime I do advise to chat with your GP.
