Hello again, I’m not all that keen on calling helplines in case they overreact, so don’t know how to get help, was in hospital a few weeks ago, the public psych services said they’re done with me - I don’t think there’s any options left except my GP - she pulled out the Cat team so that’s as much as she can do - so I’m thinking there’s no other options left. Appreciate any advice -thankyou in advance

Hey Deputy-coroner,

Thank you for your bravery and openness in sharing here and a warm welcome to the forums. We can understand how difficult it must be to feel this way, and we really appreciate you being open and sharing what's going on for you right now.

It can be difficult when you feel that you're not being understood or that there's not many options left. We want you to know that there's always options and light at the end of the tunnel even if it feels like the opposite at the moment, we're always here if you want to talk. We can hear that you're not too keen on helplines but we’d still encourage you to give the Beyond Blue counsellors a call on 1300 22 4636 or speak to them on webchat here. Our lovely counsellors operate 24/7 and are a great option to feel less alone and that you have support.

If you’re feeling suicidal or are having thoughts about harming yourself, it's important that you take immediate steps to keep safe. That might mean connecting with existing supports, following a safety plan, or you could connect with Lifeline on 13 11 14. If you feel unable to keep yourself from acting on your thoughts about suicide or self-harm this is an emergency, and you need to call 000 (triple zero).

We hope that you find our forums to be a safe and supportive space to talk through your thoughts and feelings. We know you've probably heard of these resources before but we want to emphasise that you are not alone during this time, our community is here for you, and we’re sure they’ll spot your post soon enough and have some kind words and understanding for you.  Please be kind to yourself.

Kind regards,

Sophie M

Thank-you Sophie M - much appreciated

Hello again - I’m not a triple zero case but I’m a bit more urgent than waiting weeks for a counsellor - was doing aborted attempts in my past - I’d chicken out - I’m too scared to do online chat with someone - like I’m thinking if I talk to someone like an online chat helpline and if I’m not honest it defeats the purpose of contacted them in the first place, but still worried they’ll overreact - wish there was a helpline that was absolutely anonymous with a guarantee that they wouldn’t overreact, like I said I’m not a triple zero case. Thank-you in advance for any help and advice - much appreciated.

Just called a helpline - they were very helpful - but I’m finding difficulty coping with the frustration of debating future attempts - were aborting the attempts but have carried through attempts in the distant past - am keeping myself safe today, was worse past few days, Spoke to gp today - she thinks it’s a sign that I’m meant to stick around. Thank-you for any help and advice. Cheers

Hi Deputy-coroner,

It’s great you called the helpline. I think if you tell them you’re not a 000 case they won’t normally overreact to that but will just work with you to help you feel more stabilised and grounded. I have called the Suicide Callback Service 3 times recently and each time I found them to be excellent. They helped me deactivate the level of distress I was in and feel resourced within myself to cope.

Good on you for reaching out for support. That in itself takes courage. I can hear the struggle you are going through with the thoughts you are having. If it’s any encouragement, I was very bad for a while but coming out of it now. Please feel free to post here anytime. Just reach out wherever and whenever it feels right when you need to.

I have found going gently helps, which has included practising kindness towards myself, resting when I need to and taking myself out into nature which is a really healing thing for me. During one strong episode of suicidal ideation I went to a favourite place at a rocky hill by the ocean and just stayed there for a few hours during which the activation in my nervous system gradually calmed to a lower level. I feel held in nature and it’s the safest place for me.

Other things may work for you but I just thought I’d mention that in case it helps. The Beyond Now app that BB have may also be a helpful resource. It’s easier to fill out the info in it when you are feeling a bit better, but basically it’s a way of identifying resources you can use if you become overwhelmed.

Your GP sounds helpful and supportive and I’m glad you have her to talk to. I’d say she is right - you are meant to stay with us.

I hope you are doing ok now and sending you healing thoughts and support. Take good care,

Eagle Ray

Thankyou so much eagle ray for getting back to me - appreciate your kind words and support - this beyond blue forum is a really good resource and people like yourself are very encouraging. Thanks again cheers.

You are welcome Deputy-coroner 🙏

Really struggling tonight, have run out of options.
