Hi everyone
I hope you're staying well today.
Who else likes gardening? I would love to connect with people here who are happy to share their gardening adventures.
For me I know that gardening helped heal my soul during tough times. I hope it will again.
Then with other things going on, it became a jungle.
I'm part way into rediscovering it again and doing A LOT of hard yakka atm, when I am motivated.
I have new dreams and ideas to put into the many bare places, as I remove thickets of lantana etc. This will all be on a tight budget and I'm ok with that.
I want to create a peaceful place where I can be.
I would like to grow food again (tell 'er she's dreamin' atm lol).
I would like to re-establish my worm farms and compost heaps.
Autumn is such a beautiful time of the year in the garden.
I'm 'alone' in my gardening journey and would love to share and hear about other's gardening antics. Hopefully we can troubleshoot any issues in our gardens and talk about any healing we're feeling too. There's a lot of knowledge we can share. I hope this thread can brighten your day!
Love Ecomama

My mother grew Bromiliads for over 50 years and started of when no one new what they were.Mum had the honour of having one named after her and a whole garden named after her in recognition of all her hard work she did with them over the years. The sad part was I left most of her broms behind when I sold her house and they all got bulldozed.
You need to be honest when we you see your doctor. They are there to help you even how hard it is for you to and when you start doing that the Doctor will always check on your mental health and make sure your ok.
Happy gardening,
Mark.

Hi Mark,
I’ll be going back to my GP soon for a follow-up so I can talk to her about how I’m feeling. It will be a longer appointment so hopefully I’ll feel more comfortable to get out what I need to.
Glad to hear your herbs and veges are thriving with recent rain. Are the mice still getting to things? Hopefully you’re still able to pick plenty for yourself.

Hey blondguy Paul
THIS one is for Mark!
He's the Head Commander of the Brains Trust here lol!!!
Hope you like your new Title Mark! And the responsibility is HUGE lol!!
Hey Paul, I ALWAYS companion plant... so haven't had issues with tomatoes but I do have to FIND them is a sea of basil and marigolds!
Also this worm can also come about by NOT rotating garden beds.
Organic gardeners pretty much leave up to 8y before planting tomatoes (and other food plants) in the same earth.
We also plant a LEGUME crop straight after tomatoes are finished ie peas / beans.
They kill this worm and all else but FEED off of them too... so it's a great fixer / purifier of soils.
Once we get GREAT tomatoes in a certain spot we think "AWESOME, I'll plant them there again next year" but NO!!!
The great deceiver lol... you'll get issues.
I had a LETS Gardener here work with me years ago who also worked in the Botanical Gardens in Sydney (OH YEAH WHAT A TREASURE she was!) and she said the MOST important thing for healthy plants is healthy soil.
Another horti also said to me, bugs will attack weak plants, weak plants only come from weak soil...
Food for thought!
Love EM

Thankyou so much Bionic Woman (EM)
I just planted a couple of 600mm tomato plants (10" pots) 2-3 weeks ago and all the leaves and color of the fruit is fine...I just picked them and full of worms...ewww
I wish I had your contacts EM....Nice1 🙂 I just need to spray the plant as the other tomatoes have the tell tale sign of the moth that lays its eggs on the plant....I have a reasonable understanding where mental health is concerned yet I have no knowledge on how to grow a tomato
Anyhoo....thankyou for helping me out
you rock EM x

Wow thanks Paul, actually I AM rocking right now! Just hooked up my new loud speaker and I'm playing BRUNO MARS oh yeah lol...
Oh I SEE!!!
My BF said that some times when we buy tomato seedlings, the worms are already in the roots... darn it. He's in the U.S. ofcourse but it happens here too I've heard.
Anyway I just popped back to say that the Commander will probably be back "on duty" about 4am lol!!
He'll have answers for you, I'm sure.
Best wishes Superman!

Hi Paul that' no good about your tomatoes sounds like fruitworms in them.Em is right about hygiene in your soil and companion planting and trying to attract good pest to eat the bad ones. One thing is with them is the moth which is like grayish colour likes to lay their eggs in the tomatoes that are starting to Change colour. So one thing you can do is pick them green.I can give you a green tomatoes jam recipe and green tomatoes relish one.You can make a spray.Heres my organic spray I make.Mix 1 tablespoon of baking soda with 1/2 teaspoon of detergent and 2 1/2 tablespoons of olive oil in 4 litres water.Spray that all over the plant.
Happy gardening,
Mark

When the Bionic woman (EM) gives me a permit I would love that recipe Mark 🙂
Note....I only planted these 600mm high tomato plants 2-3 weeks ago and they came with small tomatoes in a 10inch pot

Hey if Commander Mark Legend gives the info out then who am I to grant permission!
Permission granted btw, knock yourself out!
Superman, darned shame about the tomatoes but they can be salvaged with one of Mark's AMAZING recipes.
Hey Mark, it must be raining there for you to be up so late. It's raining here.... I AM LOVING IT!
We had a putrid stinking hot morning, then a "cool" change and now rain but the humidity won't let anything dry on the under cover line!
Still awake... hence me and Bruno Mars rocking it out lol!!!
I found a ONE HOUR mix of Grenade.
Thanks for coming to the rescue again Mark!
Bionic Woman over and out. 😂🤣😂🤣
