Weird thread about dreams..... who thinks that they have meaning?

Ok, so a bit of an interesting topic here, but I have always thought that there is something out there. Spiritual like, things happen for a reason, right? So I have a question about dreams. When you dream of weird things that you remember, do you think they have meaning? Last year, when I had lots of troubles, I kept having dreams about fire, danger, all scary situations. And I looked them up on the net and I could see how they were linking. I also dreamt of doors being closed, me pushing my way through. I haven't had those dreams in a couple of months, but last night I was dreaming of the toilet and water seeping, then dripping from the roof. According the net, dreaming of the toilet means the possibility to get rid of a negative situation, move on from a problem and water is emotions, specifically, leaking water is supposed to signify emotional energy being used unwisely through anxiety or fear. When you read it, it seems to have meaning. Things have changed for me from bottling things up to letting it out .I have started to talk about things. Maybe the dream does has some meaning? Is my subconscious telling me something?

What do you guys think? Anyone else ever had weird dreams that.

Hi PBelle

Absolutely I have dreams like that are weird. I am a very spiritual person but not religious.

I think that our dreams can reflect our day to day environment and stress levels too. When my depression/anxiety was at its worst my dreams morphed into nightmares. Just my opinion but with either of these two disorders the chemistry in our brain changes thus also having an effect on what we dream about

Just my take on it PBelle....and a great thread topic too!

Hey PBelle,

Holler! I can definately relate. This is one of those times I'm glad I'm anonymous on the internet because talking about dreams is a little controversial!

I do believe that dreams have meanings. I agree that it's our subconscious; not necessarily telling us something but often dealing and processing our conscious/waking lives.

I know when I was in therapy and dealing with some heavy trauma I would often have really complex and weird dreams; some that felt they went on for ages. I would jump up and google their meanings and burst into tears - it was ridiculously relatable and showed and told me insights I hadn't yet figured out consciously. I think in a way processing and understanding my dreams was really healing for me. Perhaps it could be for you too.

Great topic, thank you for posting this one.

I'm fairly skeptical , but relate to what Paul said, in that Dreams seem to reflect my stress levels, feelings, even my hormones. I have noticed a very strong connection between my dreams and my unmet emotional needs; every now and again, my dream world will meet those needs for me, through people, places, environments that my mind creates. I feel so in love with my Dream world at times, I've woken up in tears, only because the dream was over, and the people and places in it gone forever. I have written my most original music in my dreams, and for about an hour after I wake up, can occasionally remember it well enough to record some of it.

I have a form of PTSD, so I am unsure if there is a connection there. In any case, I am really grateful for the human mind , the beauty it can create in the form of Dreams, and utter emotional fulfillment I have sometimes felt in them.

Anyone feel like talking about recurring dreams, or have any experiences with that?

Hi pbelle,

Love this topic. I'm pretty interested in dreams, I even have a book with dream meanings and stuff about lucid dreaming and astral projection. I too have very vivid and strange dreams.

They definitely have meaning, even for people who don't relate to the spiritual side of things. They are a way for us to process our lives. Dreams can often present connections that our conscious state is not aware of.

Part of my therapy has been exploring my dreams to better make sense of myself. I was able to discover some real pain points that I wasn't aware of and couldn't express to my therapist until we analysed some of my dreams and I got that second opinion on them. Pretty cool stuff.
