Tough Mudder Chronicles - Looking to Soak in Some Support

Hi All,
I very recently signed up for a Tough Mudder event in December while on a temporary high from getting some good news. Now it has become glaringly obvious that I stopped believing I can do it, mainly because I haven't slept at all well in the last 7 days, which has made me skip training, let alone the last....well there's a whole chunk of time where this has been an issue but at least before, I got up and did stuff.
I do know that I still want to do it, if only not to regret pulling out (may not be the best reason, but still is a reason I can understand - one less regret).
I suppose what I could do with is some support from the mental health support team that's around here in all of you. I already have the support system in another social network, but rather than constantly reminding me that they, or we are all team no excuses, get it done, maybe a little more sensitivity on the days where I couldn't get up, and am already hard on myself. And who knows, maybe my chronicles will help inspire also?
That's me. What do you think?
Joelle out.

Hi Joelle
Don't apologise for being a nerd! I'm not too savvy with iPhone 6 Plus, I think it is! Daughter is always showing me new tricks and giving me tips plus her boyfriend is a nerd (he says so himself) and we love him to bits. I'd still be doing things the hard way if it wasn't for them. Like the day I had all these applications open at once! I got a stern talking to about wasting battery etc, as daughter closed them down one after the other! I think there was something like 10 things working away in the background unnecessarily! Now I tell my Mother off about her iPhone (it's only fair)!
I'll check my phone for the health app. Failing that, I'll explore the store!
Well done Joelle and James with your fitness prowess! Do take good care of yourselves in doing so. I'm not athletic at all and find it a challenge not to hurt myself which slows down progress. I pulled a ligament in my wrist just by getting dressed one morning. Had to wear a brace and had extra Physio until it healed proper. Had to use the mouse in the other hand! Frustrating!
Imbdoing my exercises as provided by my Physio, and we've now introduced small weights to build up strength in the arms. Today were planting a tree and gardening. Our land isn't flat, so I expect many steps at various levels of intensity will be done by day's end. Good trainging for the big walk (friend is joining me here). It's going to be a glorious day weather wise too. Spring is in the air over here Joelle. You too James? I wilt in the heat unfortunately.
Pet xx

Hi Pet.
Sounds like a convo I've had with my parents quite a few times. Sure, sure, the advice has to flow linearly, down or up the generations. I talk to my father about his health and/or technology, and he pays it forward and upward to his mum.
The apps I suggested are all free so no need to pay for anything. You should already have the apple health app installed then, and it's probably counting your steps without you knowing and all.
I know how that feels, when I was 14 (and I've had the problem since), I had a problem with my hands, it hurt the joints in my fingers to just use them let alone write with them. They tend to get stuck in place if I grip something too tightly. So I understand that frustration.
Looks like you're getting a good start, good job. It's practically a hot summer here all the time so...I want a little cold. But winter here is like Autumn or spring there so, we are heading towards the same climates.
I've been in a bad headspace for the last 24 hour so...was unable to exercise today. Hoping that tomorrow will be better. Have to get up and go to work anyway.

Joelle, I hope having to go to work is the little spark that gets you moving. Perhaps it'll be enough to bring on the motivation to train? My husband knows this about me.... he'll get changed for the garden, me in dressing gown wanting to be enthused but lacking. Then I see and hear him moving about outside, and having fun with the dogs and big cat (who thinks he's a dog, we're convinced) and I start to feel like I'm missing out (plus I get concerned as to what he might get up to out there without my opinion! Plus, hee can be clumsy at times. Especially with tools. He has prior for taking on a chainsaw!). More often than not, once I'm outside and doing, I don't want to come back in and he's having to deploy other techniques to bring his wife in out of the dark, and cold (no problem if it's hot)! My poor Mother when she stays, often yells from the backdoor as to my whereabouts!! I feel like a small child again!
You have pains too? It is a pain. Gets in the way of day to day and progress, I'm having to learn to manage it. Slowly giving in and accepting limits.
Good luck with your day and training sweet.
James, how's your training coming along? Are you running up stairs and punching the air like Rocky!! I think that's the only scene I remember from that movie! Hee, Hee!
Pet 😊

Hi Pet,
I actually hate my job. Just hate it. Just add it to the mountain of reasons that make me want to stay in bed. It uses up all my energy that I physically cannot concentrate afterward. I have had to sacrifice my training for my assignment, which I have an extension of two days on but still don't think I can manage.
How's physio? Yea, I have pains. In a lot of places actually...

Just to add an update:
When i went to Uluru, we did a couple of nights at Kings Canyon (for future reference, you only need 1 night!) and I spent one arvo running along the highway - bit silly, I know.
So, training day 3: 5km on a highway with no shade, 28 degrees, burning sun. It was horrible, haha. But City2Surf (14km) in 2 weeks time! Running out of time to train!! Must get more disciplined...Pet - aha, I will have to watch that again next time before I go running!

Hello fellow pavement hitters! I did it! Bought a pair of sports shoes. They're the bomb if you want to go walking apparently. Only two colours to choose from!
I tried to look like I understood all the technical things that there is to know when buying a pair of sports shoes. The fella did his best...bless him but OMG when I put these babies on and did a test-walk in the shop, I felt like Dorothy from the Wizard of Sports Shoes! Wow! I asked him if they had anything in the way of gum boots! Apparently not, but he did suggest a podiatrist can make something for me to put in all my shoes so that's my next project.
Can't wait to start walking!
How's training going for you two sweets?

Hey Pet,
I'm liking the look of those shoes. I think we've all been there, faking our knowledge, we catch up eventually. I'm glad you like them though. I think I know what you mean talking about Dorothy and her shoes, I bought a pair of socks that were oh so beautiful. My feet felt at home.
My training didn't happen last week, I put all my energy into getting my assignment done. So today is say...14?
Day 14 of training: Did 3.15 km run. I did give up a bit on one stretch so, not the greatest effort, but was adamant on getting in at least 3km. Had to tape my knee up and fight off another problem that cropped up last night.
I have two specialist appointments today so...feeling meh.

Hey Pet I saw your shoes yesterday - training like a pro!
I finally got out for a short run yesterday around 2km. Been all out of sorts recently. I know i can do the 14km this weekend, but I'm sure not nearly as prepared as I wanted to be 😞
Hey Joelle - glad to hear you went for a run a couple of days ago. We haven't heard much from you recently. Things aren't going so well for you either? Reckon you can go for a short stroll today or tomorrow?

Hey James and Pet. I seem to be saying that a lot on my threads. Sorry I have been MIA, just not doing so well.
I will be taking a break from training as I have an assignment and an exam coming up in the next fortnight, but after that, I will be it will be back on and intensive. How was your 14km James, all good?
And Pet, how is your training going?
