We can do it BBers, we can do self-care.
Sleepy21 pointed out research that shows self-care REALLY helps!
Please share what you do for self-care so we can get inspiration, ideas and motivation to do it too.
Best wishes
EM

Great work!!
- enjoyed a hot drink
- organised things in my home in an inperfect way - started small and accepted that it wasn't perfect, but not worth the stress of doing it too obsessively
- opened up the curtains to let some light in
- called a Helpline

Hey Super Self-carers... wow lots of self-care nourishing our souls today!
Chilli Lane or is it Lillylane lol... your yellow chilli plant sounds like a little beauty! So happy to hear more about your gardening adventures. Nice!
smallwolf - gosh you're studying? Well done you! Great to hear you got some relaxing time in with Mrs Smallwolf too.
TheBigBlue - WELCOME to the super hero thread lol... super self-care going on at yours.
So nice to read more Art! yay!
quirky - nice weather there too? Wonderful to hear you took time out after working hard with all that measuring. Nice.
golden - nice to see you! And hear you're giving your thangs a good go.
Well done.
My self-care included:
* ordering delivery Thai food for dinner
* spending time in my garden and doing one of my 5 things - see. I spent time looking at my plants, watering them and detangling them from Buddha lol.
* talking with my BF for a long while, he was wonderful helping with some car maintenance tips. So I went and did the car maintenance lol (yeah doesn't actually flow through all the time lol).
Felt pretty proud of myself.
* still chipping away at the changing rooms hmmm Yvette's bed is QUITE a challenge.

Hi all,
EM, you're doing great. Tayla, your walks are a great thing. You could add some mindfulness on them if you want to up the self-care aspect, really notice the things you see and hear and smell, focus on how the ground feels under your feet as you walk, that sort of thing. The colouring books sound good. Also, yay that you and Smallwolf are fellow metal-heads! Not_Batman, you finished sanding? Woo-hoo!
Golden, never any rush to reply. I'm really glad my post has been of some help to you. Also glad that my Questioning some things thread has been of help to you, too. It's really hard to get a handle on what abuse has done to you when that has been a constant norm, there's no "normal" baseline to compare it to. Tricky as heck. It's easy to get overwhelmed and forget the self-care things we already know about it, happens to me, too. This thread is great for accountability, reminders and new ideas. 🙂 Great work phoning about the pedicure, that's a great step in the right direction. Glad my observations about spending on yourself were of use to you, I sure could have done with that information a few years before I figured it out for myself! Got my pompoms out to cheer you on to get that pedicure. You deserve it.
Greetings to anyone I've missed, and welcome to all newcomers. Sure is busy in here!
My self-care for today:
- Got myself a soy iced coffee at the café after work (a minor victory in itself, I don't usually ask for stuff I don't see on the menu). Drank it mindfully and enjoyed the music - something that sounded Middle Eastern, instead of the usual awful pop music most places play.
- Stopped by the forest on the way home. Sat in the shade and watched the trees sway in the breeze, and a few clouds float by overhead. Saw a kangaroo, always a welcome sight. 🙂
- Upgraded my "gratitude diary" my psych insists on me keeping, to include self-care (which frankly I find more useful, I was already grateful about stuff, dammit).

Hey golden,
well chosen name for you!
it’s so nice you have joined the various discussions- I love your encouraging upbeat contributions-
and thanks! It’s nice to know I was missed! I missed being here.
I enjoy connecting with everyone here to share our struggles and victories!
what you’ve identified sounds spot on, about self talking your way thru a panic/ anxiety attack, at least to some extent. Is it also retraining your mind and body to listen to your body’s needs? Re low blood sugar etc.
Our body, learning what and how to best nourish it.... SO important in my book! Yes I can see how anorexia and loss of that nourishment over long term would impact on ability to function. Sounds like you are aware of this tho which is awesome.
Small steps forward is the only way!
it’s so good to remember the amazing healing ability our bodies have, which is only just being explored in medicine and science, particularly brain/ neuro science. Dr Carolyn Leaf is an amazing Dr in this field. She works with patients who have been told they will never walk again, but by rebuilding the pathways in the brain, thoughts, they recover.
Our thoughts are so important!
big hugs

Hi all,
todays self care-
visited a friend and swam in clear cold mountain water!
ate picnic lunch prepared the nite before.
enjoyed chilling and relaxing. Allowed myself to just feel good in someone else’s company. Didn’t allow my thoughts to circle and swoop on the way home- listened to music and drove ‘ mindfully’ instead- noticing the beautiful scenery.
sometimes I think I have to just take my thoughts in hand and say’ enough’!
so grateful for you all here, and the diversity of opinions and approaches to life and well being.
Tayla I love that you do a face mask regularly! You have inspired me!
love
J*

WOW! SO much self-care going on here! It's LOVELY to read it ALL!
How exciting lol.
Just letting you all know I'll be going back to work full-time very soon. I'll still be popping in ofcourse, just less.
KEEP ON KEEPING ON SUPER SELF-CARERS!
My self-care covering a few days:
* went to a new Podiatrist today. He was incredible lol, picked I was an athlete, asked my heritage.... yah Polynesian peeps need to walk on soft surfaces like everyone else! More appts booked where he'll put better inserts in all my shoes.
* bought some exxy flip flops (aka thongs) for my feet from the Podiatrist.
* bought some fresh produce.
* made a yummy Caesar salad minus croutons - reducing gluten helps my digestion. Got lots to make more! I ate it mindfully.
* cleaned out some troublesome kitchen cupboards and SCRUBBED them to Billeo lol. Organised all the things in there with a container for each 'category'. My kids access this cupboard alot and told me they were proud of me! Awwww.
* with Blue's awesome support on the Minimalism thread, I AM GOING HARD AND staying home lol LOVING this throwing out jibe, esp whilst we're changing rooms!
* filled all my neighbours bins again. Yay.
* went wild with my whipper snipper in the front garden today and my kids said they weren't sure it was OUR garden when they came home from work lol.... yah IT IS!
It looks really fanceee now!
* I'm understanding my cope-ability more, made a BIG decision today that helped me feel much better.
* Realised I need to RIDE this wave of working F-T (managing a big family as a single parent and a big property) and have a stable "surf board" of support.
So I accepted my Counsellor's offer of appts every week for a while. She is the best MH support person I've ever had. Our appt yesterday was excellent again. (I get free Counselling due to reporting to the Royal Commission).
* my American Fiancee spoke with me alot more about what he's bringing out when he moves here lol... he's shipping out some tools, what a sweetheart.
I accepted, it's extremely hard for me to accept help - phew I did it and said yes.
I'm definitely hyperactive, so have 5 people's energy I think!
