We can do it BBers, we can do self-care.

Sleepy21 pointed out research that shows self-care REALLY helps!

Please share what you do for self-care so we can get inspiration, ideas and motivation to do it too.

Best wishes

Today my 3 self care things:

1) Cleaned my room and bathroom downstairs. It actually felt so nice to make the bed and see it so clean. It was a form of self-care that I didn't think about before!

2) Watched Netflix as usual (makes me very happy!)

3) Made myself an ice coffee - I haven't bought coffee outside for a long time now!

Havent had coffee for a week, trying to reduce from 4-5 cups per day to none. So im using some cold water infusion teas.

Got quite anxious about my BIL’s relationship breakdown. We’re helping him where we can, but there is only so much we can do. Even that is so little, but i had to keep telling myself that it is well out of my control, and as long as we’re there for him that is all we can do.

put my project together. After all that sanding and painting, buffing etc, i put the pieces together, and came out with a guitar. Doesnt look perfect, but i like it. my blood sweat and tears has literally gone into it.

i hope everyone is treating themselves well.

Hey SCers!

Hi missep, Yes I absolutely agree that making our beds CAN be a form of self-care, why not!
My kitty cat LOVED sleeping on my freshly made bed all day long lol lucky him.

Hi Not_Batman, what? A GUITAR?? Had no idea that's why our thread was covered in all that sawdust! lol... awesome. Hope you love playing it.
re: your BILs r/ship breakdown... sad to hear.
This can be really challenging for us as we want to 'be there' as much as ppl need... I've had to detach, somewhat, from a 'fair weather friend' as it were who's going thru a really rough time and after not seeing her for 10+y asked to move in!
She has lots of family helping her.
Um NO, not moving in at all.

"Oxygen mask on self first".

I know I sound mean. I'm not. But managing my own MH is plenty with all my family's stuff too.

My self-care:

* made my bed with fresh linen lol

* had a long scrubby bath this morning after working till very late last night

* ate healthy food & drank lots of water.

Love EM

I was stressing all weekend for today because I knew that I had a very difficult call to make at work but:

1) Cleaned my room as self care - helped me to unwind after

2) Had a coffee - I love the smell! I want a coffee candle

3) Watched reality tv! It helps me just switch off I find it relaxing!

Hey not b,

well done on persevering with the mower!

I had to smile at your description of mowing being self care- I don’t think my h describes it as that! Tho he does love it when it’s finished.
I have read that mowing is great for anger- something about the smell of fresh cut grass..... I shall add your self care viewpt to my mental note now 🙂

cheers

Hi all,

golden that’s such great progress you’re making, Blues is right. Breaking rules which don’t serve any useful purpose ( apart from maybe making you feel bad about yourself, not worthy) and giving yourself permission to enjoy life more. And more and more! And when you can you can come visit me and we’ll visit some lovely rivers that flow down out of gorgeous mountains and you will be refreshed.
maybe you can Google for inspiration! And imagine yourself bathing in the beautiful waters. It is said that imagining something is nearly as good as actually doing it. Sportspeople use the trick to improve their game.
love so much of what I’m reading- love the hand made guitar not Batman!
love the smell of coffee misstep!

love all the lovely caring things you’re doing for yourself as a normal everyday thing Tayla. You’re awesome! Keep smiling, cos you’re beautiful!
em and Blues you guys are awesome and so observant, looking after everyone who comes on here. We all feel so loved I’m sure! I know I do ❤️

yesterday I went to a drumming workshop, which was really great. I remembered some of the rhythms and played them on my body today when I was processing some emotions- it really helped.

another river swim - so lovely.
easy dinner- broke some files myself and dishes to choose from included pesto pasta and honey soy chicken strips. Sweet corn and salad. The family loved it. I was so surprised!

cheers

Hey missep, don't you just hate when you know you have to do something unpleasant and it distracts you all weekend?

The funny thing was that I popped back on to put a BIG thing on my self-care list for today because my M.O. involves avoiding expressing the most difficult things.... a work in progress lol.

SO I had a horrible altercation with a rude arrogant dentist on Friday.
I actually had to tell him to "back off"... I've never had to say that to someone's face before, well not someone like a Dentist!

I asked for time to think about a way forward with treatment.

But he pressured the receptionist to take a $500 deposit from me for my next appt.

(ummm what is that?).

I was still shaky so I paid.

Then Googled all his proclamations about my Health Fund and all else Friday night.
He was SO wrong.

Decided to sack him Sat & get a refund.
Ahhh son had the car for work all day Sat.

It had to wait till today.

I tried not to ruminate over it... TRIED.... sometimes successfully! LOL!

So I did SELF-CARE before going in.... my scrubby bath lol... with a bottle of water in the bath... lots of nice smelly things.

I didn't dress up OR put on make up. Nup. What you see is what you get today.

My Counsellor had phoned and I'd missed her call, so I only had 30 mins left of my appt and called her back in the hot car park. We spoke briefly about it. She said I sounded so much stronger this week.

You bet.

I Prayed for a calm interaction and peaceful resolution.

Walked in.
Another family there so I said what I had to say quietly, calmly and politely.
Receptionist wasn't expecting it, she meandered and tried to re-book me etc.

I repeated request. "I'd like a refund of my deposit and to cancel my appt".
Put my card in front of her.

After about 5 minutes lol she decided to do it.
Then asked why?
I told her that dentist was "horrible", she tried again to rebook me.

I said thankyou, took my card and walked out.

WHAT a palaver.

It's DONE now.

So GOOD to have that behind me!

Yes I have a GREAT recommendation for another dentist.
Will call this week.

I'm really proud of you missep for dealing with that difficult call today and what you did for yourself AFTER it also!

I'm sure we're all dealing with some difficult things, possibly procrastinating, but dealing with them when we're calm is the way to go IMO.

Onwards and UPwards!

Haven't done much self care for myself lately.

Yesterday, I saw my Psychiatrist, which was mixed really, like the session before Christmas (I have no issue with him though, I've seen him since 2019). I bet he hates me though, same as my GP etc.

Going to look for some more colouring books to buy for myself.

That's all I can think of right now.

Nice self care as usual everyone.
