I was just searching for an old thread here about how pets help us with mental illness/health and it seems to be gone, so I thought I'd start another one.

As some of you know already, I have a black cat named Buddy and he's my life, basically. I have no friends or contact with family currently, so he's it. Knowing he's around is a great comfort and during bad periods he's generally the only thing that gets me out of bed.

So, go ahead and share anything about your pets and make us all smile.

Well, it's official...my cat eats potato gems, provided I bite off the end and squeeze them.

It goes with all the other weird things he eats...cauliflower, mushrooms, vegemite off my finger, warm bread...

Yes, he's very strange!!

Hi guys late to the thread but i have several animals my first addition is my labrador zoe she was family bred and chose me i couldnt bring her with me until she was 7 months but saw her every weekend untill then and she was determined every time we packed to leave we needed to pack her too. She is my rock when im anxious or depressed she will lay with me she absolutely loves cuddles and is 100% a mummas girl. We also have bonnie a bull mastiff cross who knows we got her at 16 weeks and were her 4th home which i find horrible that people passed her on so much. She was zoes friend when we first got to bring zoe home with us so there was two lol. Bonnie understandably took a few months to decide to attach herself to us and was terrified of amyone she thought was going to take her away again.

We then added pud the cat she is feral sometimes and loves you when she wants something though no matter what it os she wants she runs to her food dish and you get to guess what she actually wants when its not food lol.

Then i got ponch he is a cockatiel he loves his head scratches and chats though he is a grump lol he doesnt bite though he head butts his anger out lol.

Just this year a friend found a kelpie wondering down the road no chip or anything her harness had rubbed the hair off and was creating sores she was very sweet when she decided you werent terrifying she was very scared of the world when we got her out of the pound after her time. She spent the first week hiding under the trailer and the table anything she could get under worked for her. Her 1st month she was like i really kinda like pats and cuddles but i dont know something bad may come she also decided maybe she was infact allowed to lay on the pillows on the floor and on the bed. Even now 9 months in she is quite unco with cuddles and love and still a little unsure on things but she just wants to love everyone. We have named her tish sje fits in well to our weird bunch lol the other night when i couldnt sleep id open my eyes after a bit and there she would be standing next to me just staring at my face onle a few inches away lol... like thanks tish lol your creepy stares help my sleeping soo much lol

I almost forgot lol i also have my bigger babies. Well one is my husbands brumby mare he got at around 6 months in the middle of the drought half starved sje was one of two that were picked up the other sadly was beyond saving. Sje is so much more my husbands lol but i have my gelding we bought at tge horse sales after we bought another horse purely by chance the oly other person who bid on him was the meat man. He is a total sweetheart absolutely loves his cuddles. He needed a lot of work when we got him i found out very quickly he had been beaten the first time i went to lunge him i picked up the lunge whip which is generally used as an arm extension... well his reaction was so explosive as we wound up halfway down the paddock with him in a total panic. Some people really suck. I spent an hour that day working with him amd the whip he would let me touch him with it by the end but he would flinch still when it first touched him. Now days i can crack whips off his back loose reined with him relaxed.

I found out his history one day when i went out on a trail ride with a friend and left him where she agisted for the night when the owner of the place went to feed him that night and just check up on him we discovered that she had actually broken him in. We had a good talk found out that she sold him to a young girl who had him a bit over 12 months before selling him to the man i bought him off who had him 6 months and made him so bent up amd anxious he was a mess when i got him.

He has learnt to relax again now loves his cuddles and gives kisses and cuddles back lol. Comes running when called. He was only 5 when i got him had him for years now. Will say he will stay with me for life.

Thanks for posting Mlasho, I really loved reading about all your pets - I think I smiled as soon as I started reading 🙂

It was raining today. Went to let the pups outside for the 4 hours when my husband and i are both at work... zoe went on out no worries tish got to the door stopped looked at the fact it was raining and was like nope... turned around and went straight back in

Once apon a time coats were scary to her now she doesnt like going out in the rain unless i put her rain coat on lol. Not that they go in the rain lol they get the back verandah and the kennel and a lounge all under cover lol.

She was more than happy to go on out with her rain coat on lol

I totally understand the not wanting to go outside! It's raining where I am a bit today too, but my cat Buddy still went out, not for long, but he insists on inspecting his turf every day because of cats always visiting overnight when he's locked indoors.

Lol pud likes going outside but when she is outside between her and the dogs no cats are allowed in her yard lol.

She knows to stop chasing at the gate lol
