Hi,

It's true we all have our good and bad days. I was wondering what everyone else does with the compliments they receive, do you just brush it off as feedback or do you get creative. Projects like a Happiness Jars are a great boost in our busy lives! Any extra ideas would be appreciated Thank you 🙂

Hi everybody,

I once found receiving compliments unsettling. Having spent much of my life hearing that I was insane, good for nothing and a waste of space, self-esteem is not something I grew up with. It had to be built up from scratch and against the odds.

These days, if the compliment is heart-felt, I am appreciative and say "thank you". But if it is given for some self-serving purpose, I will smile to myself (or have a good ol' inner chuckle) and change the subject.

Hello Starwolf

Thank you for sharing your feelings on this topic, I've had my fair share of put downs from rude and ignorant people. Sadly it is a reflection of their poor character. Self esteem was something i had to work on too. Things are a lot better now, please remember that you are beautiful no matter what happens! 🙂

Regards

Stacy

Hi all above. I too used to find it difficult to receive compliments, growing up with narc, alcohol-fuelled, emotionally abusive people. My first MIL did teach me how to appreciate kind thought, words, deeds. My now ex MIL (3rd MIL) is not a good person in that when anyone compliments her, she will rubbish the person and compliment. I tried to teach my ex MIL while I was with her son, my ex hubby to say 'thanks' for the compliment, she again laughs derisively. Saying thank you is also a compliment as well as giving a compliment. Incidentally, my ex hubby is not a good compliment receiver, good at giving (not to me). I now openly admire women's taste in clothes, makeup. Men for manners, smiles, and clothing.
