Christmas isn’t my favourite time of year

I'm not that much of a fan of Christmas. To me, it's fake. And pressure to be cheerful, social, and “festive,” and I often find myself feeling the opposite. And so I’m also trying to look after my mental health a bit more this year, but I’m curious how others cope during this season.

What things do you do at this time of year to take care of your mental health?
Anything that helps you stay grounded, calm, or just get through the holidays?

Thanks in advance to anyone willing to share.

Merry Christmas everyone.

For those of us alone, or for those wishing they were at times later, for those just having a nice day, for all of us out there.

Small never celebrated Christmas in my life so at Christmas time I feel isolated and alone. Thanks for your blog .

Same atm Quirk , and l am.

Frankly, l wish new yrs and Christmas would just go away, not exist. lt all just seems to bring on so much for so many, in all the wrong ways, exactly everything it's not suppose to be.

Fully understand...Christmas, New Year or Birthday or anything else where you "need to celebrate" do nothing but destroy me...people do not understand that the demeanour you show outwardly belies the constant, exhausting hard treading of water to stay afloat at the level people expect....I am alone in a regional area where unless you are from here you never fit in...and I am not a person that will try to impose myself on those I know or reach out - they are busy which I fully understand......and that makes life a very difficult prospect some days

And you to guest , forgot birthdays but yep , l hate those to and any others we're expected to as you say celebrate to.

l'm sorry about your situation , something l've been dealing with myself to last 10 or so yrs. Regional stuff can be hard for sure and so isolating if your not a local.

l left my old house , old town, 14mths ago and went caravaning so now l'm back and just been staying over at my block a few mths for now, which is in a tiny town.

But here you can't even get much of an idea about anything people bc there's no shops , just a pub, and my block's fairly private . Been as lonely as hell so far, nice touch for this time of yr right.

All the best

A Very Merry Non-Christmas

There isn't much that I'm not a fan of.   In fact, if it were not for my undying faith, I would probably be a fan of everything.   But of course, one has to be a fan first before one can fly, wouldn't you agree?   Choosing what to be a fan of takes great courage and commitment on the part of the fanner.   There is so much in this wonderful world not to be a fan of, and I can only equate it o being like a supermarket of goods to choose from.   For example, do I choose shredded, sliced or a block of cheese?   A very hard decision indeed and one that requires much thought before purchasing.   Should I purchase a Christmas tree or is it OK to jump over the fence or sit on it?   I've also had quite a soft spot for treacle pudding.   I always question my own sanity before buying anything especially a Christmas Cake, a Christmas Pudding or even a nice pack of six mince pies which are always available year-round.   Well, I'm a bigger fan of nothing than something.

We all need to stay calm in the face of an International Christmas Pudding.   Well grounded with plenty of rum custard.
