Hi all,

This thread has been inspired by the program 'This time next year', a TV show where people pledge to work on changing something in their lives within the space of a year. It could be anything, overcome a fear, lose weight, learn a new skill, overcome illness, get fit, anything at all. It doesn't matter how big or small it is, just something that's important to you. Hopefully, this time next year, we can look back and reflect on what we have achieved, with updates along the way.

So I will kick it off;

By this time next year...

I would like to be back working or doing something with my life to feel more independent and better about myself.

Hey SB, i love your plans. Sound a bit like mine used to year after year. I don't make New Years resolutions anymore, I think if I want to change or achieve something I can do it anytime of the year 🙂

Green Tea & honey, it's amazing how much better we feel with exercise and a good diet. I love that you are doing these things for YOU, you've identified what makes you happy and feel good and putting yourself first. Let me tell you, you are of value - absolutely!

Hi everyone,

time to ramp this up again and check in on how we are going. I know some of us have made progress.

my goal was to get hack to work. Well, I found a job and started on Monday!

Kanga, you wanted to get your home back...I know the wheels have been set in motion.

PBelle wanted to get behind the wheel of her far and patch things up with a good friend and I know that was happening.

so how is everyone else going with their pledge?

Any new posters are welcome to join in. This thread is not about New Years resolutions, it's about taking steps, no matter how big or small, to work toward a goal.

looking foward to updates and new goals.

Hi CMF and a wave to all,

I thought it might be a nice idea to write on this thread, seeing as 2019 is just around the corner 🙂

I suppose my hopes for 2019 are slightly vague (plus I’m admittedly a little uncertain) for now.

But I hope to become the human embodiment of the quote below?

Whatever that specifically entails for me personally, I’m yet to figure out though 😉

Ordinary life does not interest me. I seek only the high moments. I am in accord with the surrealists, searching for the marvellous.

- Anaïs Nin

Would love to hear from others as well 🙂

Thanks for this thread, CMF!

Pepper,

I felt "high" just reading that! I love it so much. I feel for me when risk/ danger is involved it can bring u high too- like the work of a policeman for example stopping a crime then feeling that high.

Being naturally elevated is great. Good for you. I live this way too.

Hi CMF and as big hello to everyone.

Pepper that quotation is interesting but I suppose because of my extreme moods in the past I am happy with the ordinary.

I am not ready for the 2000s let alone 2019!!

I don't plan too far ahead as things changes and I often feel let down or annoyed myself.

I would like to read more .

Hello Pepper, MM, Quirky, CMF and all 😊

Pepper I can really relate to your feelings.

I am feeling like I've been living in the mundane, which is good at times, as it's calm. But I want to reignite my dreams, even if they feel totally out of reach right now. I want to take flight.

This excerpt from a poem by Mary Oliver called "Starlings in Winter" says it nicely for me:

I want
to think again of dangerous and noble things.
I want to be light and frolicsome.
I want to be improbable beautiful and afraid of nothing,
as though I had wings.

Hi CMF (and a wave to all),

M_M: my fellow, wild hearted friend 🙂

There’s that unmistakable spirit, sense of adventure, drive and energy that I have always loved about you! I hope you remain untamed...

Thank you so much for writing and for understanding. You speak to me heart xoxo

Quirky: thank you, i think what you’re saying is understandable, especially given your past experiences 🙂

I like your goal to read more. I hope you read and learn a lot in 2019...xoxo

Beautiful birdy: Thank you also to you 🙂 I love seeing this other side of you...

Yes, calm is nice and has its place, but sometimes as you said, a person needs to take flight..

I loved the excerpt you shared. Taking flight indeed 😉

If you ever feel like it, I wonder if you would find it empowering/helpful to share the dreams that you wish to reignite here with us. I, for one, would be highly interested. That said, if you don’t wish to share, that’s okay too of course xoxox

Thank you all!

Hi Pepper, MM, Quirky, Birdy and all reading,

Wow, I'm glad you got this thread going again, thank you. I love what you have all written.

I achieved my goal for this year, to be working again. I am very blessed. I haven't thought about a goal for this time next year...2019.

Anyone else have something they would like to achieve? Remember, this is not about New Year resolutions, it's about setting a goal and just going for it. If we don't achieve it, that is fine, the point is we tried.

Hi everyone

thought I would join in too 🙂

this time next year:

- I want to be able to speak about my brother and not be overwhelmed with sadness

- to be happier and confident, I feel like I have completely lost myself in the last few years

- to have a positive outlook on life
