Hi all,
This thread has been inspired by the program 'This time next year', a TV show where people pledge to work on changing something in their lives within the space of a year. It could be anything, overcome a fear, lose weight, learn a new skill, overcome illness, get fit, anything at all. It doesn't matter how big or small it is, just something that's important to you. Hopefully, this time next year, we can look back and reflect on what we have achieved, with updates along the way.
So I will kick it off;
By this time next year...
I would like to be back working or doing something with my life to feel more independent and better about myself.

Hi everyone,
What a nice idea for a thread.
Its a simple statement but a hard one to respond to, 12 months (hope your talking about this time next year). can be a long time but at the same time it can pass so quickly.
I want to do so much, but I will keep it at baby steps,
This time next year, I want to be able to walk up to a complete stranger, say hello, ask that person how they are? and strike up a conversation with them. That's something I'm afraid to do and have never done. This probably sounds a simple thing to do for most people but with me it will be huge.
Thank you for a really good idea, it will remind me of what I want to do and give me encouragement to do it.
Kindness only,
GG

Tass, love your pledge but this stood out 'be more accepting of my situation and illness and stay well.' Acceptance is the key, work with it, not against it. Love it.
GG, yep I am talking about this time next year. Simple steps is good. A few years ago I was quite depressed and didn't want to associate with anyone. I started going to a new local coffee shop everyday. I'd sit outside on my own. Eventually I started to feel comfortable and started talking to people I didn't know. Now 4 years later, I still go there and have met so many people whom I chat with all the time. I'm still meeting new people there. It is a huge thing to do, my point is that perhaps frequenting the same place may make it easier. Being comfortable and feeling safe in your environment makes it's that little bit easier. Little steps. You've got this.

Hello GG
You are spot on. This is a great thread even if we are doing it hard.....which most of the posters are as you know
I just read this great sentence that you quoted from Tass....."Acceptance is the key, work with it, not against it"
I know I am tired CMF but who wrote that? It was brilliant! Not to mention its a huge key that unlocks the door from the dark place we find ourselves in on this roller coaster ride of ups & downs
My Kindest as always

Hi Paul and everyone,
hmmmm...I can't seem to find who originally wrote 'acceptance is the key' but I see it used for so many situations.
Powerful words.

This time next year....
I plan to be behind the wheel of my car, driving without fear and hopefully be friends again with my best friend.

PBelle, in case no one has told you, you already shine. It comes through in your posts. Good luck with your pledge, take you time, you can do it.
Bethie, thank you for the info and your input on the forums.

CMF,
You are just amazing. The one person who used to make me feel like that is the one person who I am really trying to make it up to from my behaviour this year, but they have still shut me out. I just want them to see that shining star again that they knew for years. What you just said brought tears to my eyes cause I it is something I still don't believe in. I need a hug.

One hug coming right up {{{{}}}}. I know it is hard trying to show someone you are not who they think you are.
Believe in yourself Princess, because I do and so do many others here.
