Hey wonderful people!
I take delight when I read about what other people have made themselves; from art works to sewing to knitting to ANYTHING!
The CREATIVITY in these forums is astounding.
The skill set is pretty mind blowing too.
It warms my heart to know that Arts and Crafts are being enjoyed by so many of our members.
Please feel welcome to SHARE your past, present or future projects with us all.
Or even what you'd like to learn how to do.
Any gift ideas are most welcome too!

So i found some literature on painting portraits in oils, it also has technique exercises...think i’ll give that a go when time permits.
Any advice for a novice?

Hi HamSolo,
That all sounds like a very fun mix of creativity and problem solving.
Something I’d like to try one day is landscape design software. I’m not sure if amateurs like me would be able to use it tho.
I follow a lot of landscape designers on Insta and some of them show fly-throughs of a house and it’s proposed concept for the garden space. Some of the rendered stills are so life-like and detailed, it’s hard to tell them apart from the real-life finished work.
Would be handy for my own garden - To be able to visualise where to place trees for example, and how big they’d get one day. Fun!

Hi Lillylane.
i’ll summarise in 3 words.
Yes You Can !
the design software (Commonly called CAD’s -computer aided design) are fairly simple to navigate. And most of them have tutorials or online communities.
there are mobile device apps too, though i havent tried any.
when i was in my early 20’s I used to use an architecture CAD which gave a 2D plan view, and 3D walkthrough view.
have a go at the free apps first. im sure there are online CADs too that you can use.

Thank you! I will give it a go 🙂
Whenever we get rain I start dreaming of the things I’d like to plant. Trees especially.
Cheers,

Great one guys!
I love seeing the computer designs turn into reality. It's cool!
My BF used Autocad for years but now uses Solidworks or Solidworx - not sure of spelling.
That's how he's designing my cabin.
Tbh I don't have the patience for them but he loves it all things technology.
Just make sure if you use a free program that you can save your designs to your own devices or USB or the Cloud. Sometimes part way through you can't go any further unless you pay.

Hi EM and All,
The painting by numbers is a picture of a couple of turtles. Not quite sure what it will look like by the time I am finished with it! Ha. Ha.
I am needing a magnifying glass to be able to read the numbers and to try to paint in the lines of the smaller shapes. I completed one fish yesterday and it doesn't look much like a fish now! I think it may need to be viewed from a distance when it is complete...quite a long distance!
I'm not sure what I really want to crochet so will make another blanket I can donate to either a home for the not so young or to a shelter for homeless people. Last year I made blankets for family members so I don't think they will want any more.
There is always someone I guess who could use a blanket.

Hi Not_Batman,
My advice would be to enjoy the experience! I like to splash paint around on a canvas. My paintings don't look like much but I do enjoy the process.
All the best with your creativity! My Nana started painting in her 80's and produced some lovely art work.
Cheers from Doosl

Nice Dools!
I'm sure your art will look beautiful, turtles are such beautiful creatures.
I have lots of my eldest daughter's art and now we're changing rooms, it's a pickle where to put them.
Today I decided to hang 2 sweet Mandala works in my son's new room, I call him prodigal son because he left home but keeps coming home to visit lol.
He LOVES black and white.
These 2 are 25cm square but have black frames and really beautiful symmetrical fine black mandalas.
Haven't hung them yet!
Youngest d hasn't moved OUT of that room.
She only just finished sealing her "new" whitewashed floorboards last night and with an empty room, she's enjoying the acoustics so has been playing her guitar & ukelele and singing in there all day! Videoing herself too - why not.
She sounds like an ANGEL in there. Amazing voice.
I'm enjoying sorting through my sewing and craft stuff. Found some gorgeous old tins and jars my Nanas and great grand mother used, full of buttons etc. Very special and very sweet. I love touching things they touched. They were wonderful women.
I'll keep a few that spark JOY in my bedroom set up.
Looking forward to some type of manageable sewing set up in my bedroom but clearly there'll be some stored downstairs for later use. Or else! 🤣😂
Getting there... gardening tomorrow!

Hi Everyone,
EM you were talking about not knowing where to put all of the art work. Maybe you can have an art gallery effect in your home. Decide once every couple of months to change the pictures. Store them somewhere easy to get to if possible and change them around.
This paint by numbers I am doing is going to take quite a long time! Ha. Ha. I might get my paints out and do some smaller projects as well so I have a sense of achievement and not feel so overwhelmed on days when I am not coping so well.
I like watching painting tutorials on YouTube as well. Some people are so very talented!
Hope you all enjoy your creativity time no mater what form it takes!
Cheers all from Dools

Thanks Dools
That's a really great idea! Thankyou!
I think I might have to find a "permanent" home for a few of the more oddly sized frames and the HUGE ones but for the others that would be lovely!
Yvette slept in her new room last night after telling me she thought she'd be too scared to.
So I said she didn't have to, to take it slowly. But she set up her chain lights, some pieces of furniture in and her mattress and did it!
Looks like we have to take her bed apart to move it lol... bit of a job there.
But it will look lovely.
The floors came up beautifully, pale and gentle. I still think the part white paint and water does a more thorough coverage (we bought the pre-mixed stuff this time). The sealer is beautiful too, you can REALLY appreciate a space you did all by yourself!
Yeah I agree with your strategy re: your Art Dools. It can get really frustrating to not see significant progress with hours of work.
